Why does the US and Canada both us a 25 cent coin, but have a $20 bill? Wouldn't it make more sense to have a $.20 coin or a $25 bill?

What would make more sense about that?

25x4= 100 .. or .25x4=1 dollar.. thats why.. to get 20cents just use 2 10 cents.

$0.25 coin is easier for people to use. i.e. $0.25 x 2 = $0.50, $0.25 x 4 =$1.00 ...etc.

i think its that way to make it convinent.

Our Arabic number system is based on 10, thats why we have $10, $20, $100...and half of 10=$5

As for coins, i think cos they are convient fractions i.e. half, quarter and tenth of a dollar. 5c and 2c are probably to enable you to pay any specific amount of money(day-to-day circumstances) without the need to round off eg: $1.32

$1 is there cos its unit currency. And i would think $2 is there just for convience and by popular demand

The above is just my reasoning, it may be wrong, but thats the only thing that i could come up with

Time to break out the history books.... In the very old days they used a coin called a "Piece of eight"....Essentially a small chunk of silver broken off of the then standard Spanish coin called a "real". The "real" was broken into 8 pieces for convenience sake, hence, pieces of eight.

The "real" was essentially a dollar. Divide it into 8 pieces... each piece is worth 12.5 cents.

So.... since we have always been lousy at fractional math..... someone doubled it.... to be 25cents... also known as a quarter ( 2/8 of a "real" - 1/4 or a "real")... and we sometimes even 25 cents "two bits" paying homage to the fact that it really is 2 bits of the "real"
