I just bought a 12 pack of pop and noticed a recycling fee of $.12. This is over and above the $.60 for the deposit (12 x $.05).
Not an issue, but what was really surprising was that this recycling fee of $.12 was subject to GST!!!!
anyone noticed this before?

U must be in BC (or AB). Yes the CRF of $0.01 is subject to GST. Make sure the deposit is not. If u have a complaint about the fee, go talk to Encorp Pacific in Burnaby.

The only thing I can think of the recycling fee being used is to pay the workers that work in the recycling depot, such as the Save-On-Food's in BC
Otherwise, they can't make that money from bottles.

what can they do about it? ( I really don't have a complaint about it, just that it's another silly fee on top of a deposit, and to boot, it gets charged GST, let alone the pop itself.

I was bewildered as I have not noticed that when I shopped; then you revealed your location. sigh of relief, indeed.
What about the technology tax in Alberta? That's ludicrous.
