I'm having a problem with a shower in my house that uses a moen faucet. When I turn the knob on, cold water gushes out ... as I move the dial counter clockwise to the hot water side, it basically shuts off (dribbles a little) ... but there is no hot water coming out of the faucet at all.

the strange thing is, there's a basin sink next to the shower which works perfectly.

I tried calling a plumber in the phone book and got an initial quote of $55 to replace a cartridge in the dial ... but then got a call back from him about 2 hours later saying it's actually $110. WTF???? then further into the conversation, he goes on and on and it somehow get's up to $450?!?!

just looking for someone that can give me an honest quote ... or even better, come and take a look at it and give me a honest price. Any info / references would be appreciated.

Moen cartidges should be under the warranty and you should be able to get the part for free. That happened to me! couple of years ago and Moen gave me! two cartridges.

It is really not that difficult to change the cartidge. If you have the initial instruction booklet that came with the faucet, it is quite easy to follow. If not, get one from Home Despot and take a look at the instructions there.

how did you get the moen cartridge for free? where did you get it and how long did it take?

I grabbed an "illustrated parts" pdf from the moen website ... shows how the faucet goes together ... I figure if I just turn the water off, it shouldn't be that hard to take it apart?!? :)

call Moen's 1-800 number and give them the faucets model number and the part number of the cartridge.

the entire faucet is "supposed" to be guaranteed for life.

I am going to try for the spout but they sell that part prominently in displays.

(They also sell cartridges, but don't buy it if you can get it for free. took a couple of weeks.)

You can try HD, but they may balk at giving it away for free when they actually sell them. It is a Moen guarantee not a HD guarantee, but you can stil try
