I've been invited to a wedding of a friend. I was wondering:
1) Can I wear a double-breasted suit or does it have to be a tux?
2) The wedding is at 2pm and the reception is at 6pm. Do I have to change into a different suit for the reception?
3) Do I have to bring a date?

If you are not part of the wedding party DO NOT wear a tux. you will be overdressed.
a suit (any kind, except powder blue with ruffled collars and sleeves) is okay.

1) it doesn't have to be a suit, could be just a shirt and tie (and pants of course)
2) you do not need to change into a different outfit, some girls do
3) this is an iffy, some say you can bring a date especially if you don't know anyone there but make sure you can cover for your date gift wise, weddings are not cheap. However, did you not already indicate number of guests on your rsvp? If you indicated you're going alone, DO NOT BRING A DATE. Nothing worse then surprising the bride and groom that they need to accomodate one more person.

Going to a wedding this weekend, I'm going to wear my black CK suit, and a nice dress shirt with a tie. If i am over dressed, I'm going to pocket the tie and hang the jacket at the door ;)

Yeah, unless the invitation specified black tie, a suit should be fine. No need to go for two suits IMO. If you really don't want to be seen wearing hte same thing, bring a different shirt/tie combination for the party. If you wear a neutral color suit, you can probably pull it off fine. If not, most people will likely be celebrating too much to notice anyway. :cheesygri

some people i've seen come in short, a sweaty tee and a baseball cap. No respect!!!!!
But dress pants, collared shirt and a tie should be bare minimum. if it is really hot, then the tie is optional if the shirt style can accept to be fully buttoned up.

First and foremost, find out what type of wedding it is. I've been to weddings where suits are not worn - just dress shirt and pants. For a regular wedding, tuxes for the wedding party, suits for the rest. If you wear a tux and you're not in the wedding party, its WAY too formal.

If in doubt, you can always just go wearing a canadian tuxedo. :-0

1) Suit is fine, even a dressy shirt should be good depending on the wedding.
2) Naw.
3) HAVE to? No...should you? Depends on the wedding.

You'll also need that wicked Sega Genesis sensor octagon. ;)

Only bring a date if you are in a serious relationship. If the invitation says for 1 and you have a common-law wife she is going and the bride is just going to have to live with it. Otherwise you will never hear the end of it from said significant other.

Are we going to the same wedding?? I have the same deal upcoming; ceremony @ 2:00, reception @ 6:00
If you RSVP'd for yourself only and have changed your mind about bringing a date, just call the bride and let her know. I am in that exact situation; I called her with ~2 weeks before the wedding and she has no problem with it (because she is my friend :)).

You wear what the bride tells you to wear. Her word is final.
