View Full Version : What gas company do you always use?

So are people loyal to one brand of gas station?

My family and I are loyal to Shell because of the airmiles. I don't think i've ever topped up anywhere else in the city. A few times when i was driving in the middle of nowhere.

What i found odd was in the US, they have a crapload of different companies. Like on one street in Denver I counted 6 gas stations at 3 corners.

Also if you could state the reason why you're loyal, like petro points or whatever.

Shell for airmiles here also. If I'm real low, then 7-11 for a partial fill.

Shell... my engine seems to sound smoother on it than Esso.

I stick to Shell, Esso and Petro-Canada.

No Sunoco in Quebec or I would use that :(

We've always used Petro Canada. Heard Petro and Shell have cleaner gas than Esso and Canadian Tire. Plus we have Petro Canada gas station near by.

My dad though uses Canadian Tire, because it's convenient for him where he works and he likes the CT money back. :)

Since having those 20% gift cards, which is like 20 cents off per litre, we don't need to use the others anymore. :cheesygri

I've heard that canadian tire uses sunoco gas, and pioneer also uses sunco gas.. I'd heard all of this from my friends not sure if its true facts or not.. any of you guys can comment on that?

Canadian Tire is sourced mainly from Esso (they buy 1 billion liters a year from them.)

Pioneer is owned by Sunoco (Sunoco bought them years ago when Pioneer couldnt pay their debts to Sunoco ... so yes the gas is from Sunoco.

How come i always hear stupid things about CT's gas? Supposedly its the crappiest gas? But if it comes from Esso, how can it be bad than? I guess its just a rumour...

I use Sunoco because it's the cleanest gas (lowest sulfur content as far as I know). Trying to prolong the life of my engine and exhaust system.

Esso because I'm on the rewards program (use it for car washes... but they have jacked the cost of that reward up a lot over the years)...

I also love the Speedpass! All gas stations should be doing that... although pay at the pump is "good enough"... it drives me nuts now when people don't USE pay at the pump... it wastes so much time when the stations are busy. Pay at the pump for your gas, drive to a parking spot, and then go inside to buy something if you need a chocolate bar or something.

I'm probably going to switch to that new Canadian Tire Mastercard where you can save 10 cents/litre on gas... they need to get more stations hooked up to the program though.

I use superstore cause I save 7.5 cents a litre and my Civic Si only needs the crap gas. When I had my civic SiR i always used 94 octane Chevron.

1. Centex - Cheapest gas in town & 2 cents cheaper on Wed/Sat/Sun
2. Shell - For Airmiles/Carwash
3. PetroCan - For PetroPoints

One of the few that is actually Canadian owned... ;)

How patriotic! LOL

But then again... Canadians just aren't like Americans when it comes to that type of behaviour...

Sunoco
-CAA $
-Traditionally lowest sulphur content in Ontario

Anyone remember this? (Well anyone with a GM will..)

from http://www.lemonaidcars.com/update.htm
Canadian car owners who bought tainted high-sulfur fuel from Shell in 2003 are getting hosed by the oil company’s Scrooge-like settlement offer that ended May 7, 2004.

Canadian motorists are getting chump change while Americans are getting full compensation when the sulfur corrodes the contacts on sending units and fuel pumps in tanks and, in turn, triggers faulty fuel gauge readings, where cars with full tanks suddenly run out of fuel. It may also destroy the catalytic converter, and produce a rotten-egg exhaust smell.

they don't get safeway in the east. that's all you're missing. :)

in calgary, all major gas stations will take 3.5c to 5.5c off the posted sign at the pump. small gas stations just post the actual pump price. not much real saving at safeway. i chose co-op because it's 3.5c off posted sign + 3.5c in-store coupon + dividend rebate.
