How do i register a domain name?

(dont know anything about web hosting. except creating websites, so i'm googling a lot to learn more.)

Assuming you are creating a website, you will first need a domain like you mentioned.

Some recommended registrars are:
http://www.godaddy.com
http://www.namecheap.com
http://www.registerfly.com

Once you have you're domain, you will need to either 1) Buy Hosting OR 2) Host your domain with a Free Host.

If you are just starting out but would like reliability with your host, you can try: http://www.site5.com , very reasonable pricing OR if you would rather not spend money, try: http://www.zeeblo.com.

Once you have hosting, you will need to change the name servers to 'resolve' with your hosting provider; this process usually takes 24 hours or less.
