I just went to RadioShack.ca to check on some items, and I get some stationary page about The Source?
What's going on with Radio Shack? I googled it, but came up pretty empty.
Is Radioshack now called 'The Source'?

The Source took over Radio Shack quite a while back ... probably around 2 months ago!

Actually, Radio Shack wanted out of the Canadian market and sold its Canadian operations to another company a decade ago. As part of the sale the other company was allowed to keep using the Radio Shack name for a period of time. That time is now up and although they wanted to keep the name - I think there was a court case over this - they had to change it to something else, and chose "The Source".
Incidentally, Radio Shack USA wanted the name back because they apparently might re-enter the Canadian market at some point, so we could end up with two similar competing chains, Radio Shack and The Source.

the info listed above is correct. there's radioshack the "retail brand" and local independents who operate under its banner. as it stands, circuit city has purchased the corporate front & rebranded the label but has kept their wholesale & suppliers channel. this means you'll only see cosmetic changed for the next 2yrs: same locations, same employees, same stock. there'll be a marketing push & a site relaunch once they finalize the reorg and who knows what lies ahead in 5yrs. unfortunately, i doubt their retailing will improve. it's not cynicism, just my impression that changing the big boss & signage doesn't do much when your front-line staff's first words are, "what's your postal code?" um...usb2.0 doesn't mean it's 2X faster (one staff actually tried to convince me it was true *shakes head*).

Scenario:
In Canada there is a company named Intertan.
In the past, Intertan ran such stores as Rogers PLUS, Radioshack in Canada, and Battery Plus.
Under licencing agreements with Radioshack in the US, Intertan was given the rights to use the Radioshack store name here in Canada.
What happened was that Circuit City BOUGHT Intertan here in Canada, and since Circuit City is in direct competition with Radioshack in the US, Radioshack in the US revoked Intertan's licencing agreement to use the Radioshack name in Canada! So, Intertan renamed their stores to The Source by CircuitCity.
