I have a video card; which I think is tosted.
My Dell become loud and Chasis Fan start runnning at very High Speed.
I thought that because I am watching all this Divx Porn; which may require
lot of Video and Cpu processing.
Today it turn it self off.
I open the computer up and saw the Dangling the Video Chipset cooler. (Stock)
I poped it back in. Its boots up but its all blocky and Jacked up.
I wants to RMA this Video Card. Its well under the warrantty.
I have installed the Video Ram heat sinker on the back.
I used the Artic 5 Glue. I dunno how ATI will response to it.
I am thinking they will get band out of shape :|
Video Chipset heat sinker is dangling off from one Side.
here is the Pic

The fact that the cooler fell off means that the card was already defective and out of spec, thus eligible for an RMA.

Why did you go and perform a mod on the card, which possibly voids the warranty and nullifies your chance for an RMA?

The only way I know of to remove those is the famous freezer trick.
You will be attempting a very dangerous operation four consequtive times (more if there's additional chips on the flipside). Do so at your own risk.

Any kind of modding to your video card effectively voids your warranty. But try speaking with one of their reps first anyway since the only thing you did was add ramsinks. You've nothing to lose at this point except the possibility of something to gain. Your other option is to buy an aftermarket vga cooler and hope that your gpu is still okay.

I understand your question well.
However this thread is not about WHY I did that! ;)
its about what are my options and how I can move foward :)

Any after market modifications will void your warranty, period.

any dell OEM card can only be warrantied by dell themselves, although Dell does use some retail based products in non default system configs

I don't understand how the cooler could just fall off? Why would you put ramsinks and not an aftermarket cooler?

Something does not add up.
