I am looking to buy a new motherboard for digital audio recording and mixing.
I am wondering if therer are any opinions of new motherboards and components that I could look into.

Of course, the more you spend - the better you get... I was hoping to build a better digital workstation based "bang for the buck" thinking.

appreciate the opinions, thx

For doing "good" digital audio recording and mixing, I wouldn't be so worried about the motherboard. I'd get some external audio solution with a breakout box or similar, because electronic noise and interference inside a computer are pretty high, especially on the motherboard. For analogue audio, it's easy to hear the difference even between motherboard-integrated audio and PCI-based audio with a good set of headphones. That is why computer cases and power supplies have metal frames: It is radiation shielding.

With an external audio system, on the other hand, you'd be isolating it from that electrical noise, which is good, and not dependent on the motherboard.

true enough, I was more concerned with audio/data files processing power for the data itself. I'll be going with a protools"ish" external rig.
