I recent purchased the Chaintech AV-710 PCI sound card and still can't get the thing to work properly. I am only able to hear sound from the two front speakers, can't hear from center or rear speakers. I have Logitech 530 5-1 speakers system. I already installed the drivers and the updated drivers from VIA, but in the device manager it isn't recongizing my card(ie. not listed). When I attached it to motherboard and turned PC on didn't get hardware notification change, did scan and still didn't work. I even tried a different PCI slot and still nothing. I didn't disable my onboard card yet, but why am I able to hear sound from the front two speakers (which are plugged into the card) but just not others. I did check to make sure was set to 5.1 speaker system as well. Please help guys, I am running out of options Thank you!

if I understand correctly, you cannot get the Chaintech card to detect, correct? let's leave this out of the equation for now.

did you set up your onboard to 5.1 output? Unless you have intelligent connection (believe Asus did this), it won't detect and know what you have plugged into the sound card ports until you tell it to change the line-in to rear output and mic-in to sub/centre channel output.

The AV710 isn't good for 5.1 mode because it's not using the better DAC's. The DAC's for 5.1 are the same as onboard sound.

The reason why people buy it, is for 2.1 mode where you can enable Hi-Sample and use the AUX jack instead for better DAC.

It states that it is a 7.1 card. I still need some help getting the other 3 speakers to play

exactly which card are you using? the chainetech or the onboard?

remove the soundblaster for now, just to verify that 5.1 is going to work fine.

after you install the drivers, you should have a control panel applet in either control panel, or in your system tray.

it should be pretty easy to see how to set it up for 5.1. Realtek (most onboard audio uses their codecs) makes it really easy to set up and test.

I just installed my chaintech today (ncix Im guessing as well?) and I got it working perfectly with my 5.1 speakers. And man do mp3s sound so much better.. especially when playing around in foobar2000. I recommend the download.

What I did was d/l the drivers from http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1010&SubCatID=107

and just run the setup.exe, and presto. just double click the drivers icon in your taskbar and setup your speaker setup, etcetcetc, voila!

(during windows bootup and what not, if windows complains about new hardware, etc, just cancel all that crap and just run the setup.exe downloaded from above).

HTH

Note I did remove my onboard sound from my bios, so you might want to consider that as well..

thanks for the help guys, when I click on the setup.exe file, I get warning "undetermined card" and then says "OS not supported"

I think you need to explain things more. Have you disabled the onboard sound yet? What drivers did you install to get the chaintech working? etcetc

Today I had a buddy of mine come over today and play with the settings on my pc, I am now able to hear audio in all my speakers when listing to music with WinRip but I can only hear audio out of the front 2 speakers on all other programs I can't get a hold of my buddy now, so any help would be appreicated.

you either need to configure the programs to output in 5.1, or to have the actual audio be encoded in 5.1 format so the program will output in 5.1.

IF youre using the correct drivers with correct control panel, if you enable the "Stereo EXpander" in the advanced settings, that "enables" all 5.1 speakers even with a 2.1 source. So if youre playing mp3s in winamp or whatever, you will hear audio coming from all speakers.
