New PC, installed XP Pro with SP1 (not corp), used manufacturer's driver disks, reboot. Install SP2, and then no boot disk found. Checked hardware and it all test fine with Troubleshooter, & QuickTech. Ran Sisoft for 36 h with no errors.

Anyone ran into this one before? There is absolutely nothing else installed besides the OS and drivers. Looking for your experiences to try and make sense of wth might be causing this problem.

sounds like your hdd might have seen its days. but slap it into another system and see if it detects in there & run some diagnostics on it to make sure.

Here's a bit more info to scratch your noggin - if I reformat and reinstall, all is well right up to the point where I add SP2. Then, same thing again after rebooting after the SP2 install.

Could it be that your copy of SP2 is corrupted??

Where did you get the SP2??.. Is it a file that you have save somewhere??

I don't think Windows update gives you the option to save.. it just gets downloaded/installed.

I think you should look in the internet for a fresh copy of SP2 (just in case). One thing I have done in the past (to save time) is slipstreaming SP2 with my WinXP Pro.. so there is no need to install SP2 after the OS installation.

Did some googleing and came up with this link.Apparently some computer hardware won`t play nice with service pack 2.Sometimes a bios update fixes it.

You will think that a new PC will have the latest BIOS.

It is worth to look into.

I don`t even know what kind of mobo we`re talking about here. But the articles I read sure make it sound like a bios problem.
