View Full Version : Runtime error with IE

Since yesterday, I've noticed that I cannot run IE. I get the following runtime error when I try using IE:

MS Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Normally, I use Firefox as my internet browser. However, there are a few sites that work better under IE. Windows Update doesn't work anymore either.

Any advice? Should I reinstall or delete IE? I probably could try to download and install Opera for occasional use.

Thanks.

Dave

I don't see why IE would just stop working like that all of a sudden. Have you scanned for spyware and viruses? My money would be closer to those as being the actual culprits.

Thanks for your reply. My AV, AVG, is always on and up to date. However, after using other free AV software, I have discovered that my system is infected....each reporting something a bit different. Unfortunately, many online AV scanners only use IE which leaves Firefox users like me out of luck. Ran Trend Micro's House Call, no problems with spyware except for a few cookies. I guess that I will have to keep scanning for any more AV. Trend Micro report my system is infected with JAVA_BYTEVER.A-1....but can't seem to get rid of it right now. I will have to adjust my settings.

You can usually delete Java temp files by booting into Safe Mode, then Control Panel, and Java, then deleting temp files there. I just had the same thing (with the infection part, not IE runtime), and rid myself of it there.
