View Full Version : FS: A Real Challenge - 1995 Neon Sport 4dr *w/ PICS* NOW $SOLD!!
Haz
Aug 27th, 2005, 01:05 AM
SOLD locally to a brave mechanic willing to take on the challenge!
Why is it a challenge? Cause it's a piece of junk. Just got another car so this one has to go so I can pay for the newer (actually, a 1993 model, so older) car. Anyway, here's the rundown:
1995 Chrysler Neon Sport Rebuilt
Dark Green
4 Doors
Auto Transmission
A/C
Power Mirrors (actually, only the driver side one works)
2.0L SOHC Engine
~149,000km
Air Care good till Feb 2006
Here's what wrong with it:
-No air bags (I did mention it was a rebuilt. I was told a pole fell on it. :|)
-Rear drums and brake pads (about $80-90 DIY)
-Front reinforcement bar (about $30 DIY)
-Front bumper has a hole in it (I can get a refurbed one for about $90)
-CD player doesn't work but the radio does. Probably just needs cleaning.
-2 light bumps (rear passenger side door and driver door) from stupid hit & runs in a parking lot!
-Driver side headlight housing (guessinig about $30-70 for a used one)
-A hole between the handle and the door (driver side) since some bugger tried to break in. Pretty pathetic attempt.
Here's the biggie:
It burns gas more than it should. Something like only 190km/40litres. Changed the front O2 sensor and catilitic (sp?) converter Feb 2004. Fine, it was ok. Aug 2004, noticed it burning more gas. Changed the back O2 sensor, no change. Changed spark plugs, air filter, oil around March/April 2005. No change. Can't figure the thing out. The O2 sensors and the cat are probably ok.
Edit: Also important - As with most (if not all) 1995 Neons, the head gasket leaks. Now I didn't know that (I didn't and still don't know much about cars) until a little while after I bought the car.
Anyway, it's $1200-->$1100-->$1000-->$900-->$750 OBO
I'm in Vancouver. Will update with real pics later (or you could just come by and kick the tires:cheesygri) and some of the error codes.
**UPDATE** - Pictures!!
Here's the picture of the front. Yes with that small hole in the front bumper that's sagging because of the damaged reinforcement bar.

http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/1332/neondash1ze.th.jpg (http://img324.imageshack.us/my.php?image=neondash1ze.jpg)
The CD player/radio. I do have the cigarette lighter in the house.
http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/1038/neonradio0if.th.jpg (http://img324.imageshack.us/my.php?image=neonradio0if.jpg)
The trunk is only big enough for one adult or two children. Still not bad. Yes, it still has the spare tire in there.

Bump for a fellow Neon owner.. my friend had a green '95 sport... man I loved that car... To anyone who doesn't know, these cars are virtually bulletproof, my 2001 R/T has had nary a single problem ever, since I bought it new, in March of '01. I am definitely keeping it a while longer.
good luck!

Thanks for the bump! The car was nice when I got it. I was coming from an 83 (or was it 84?) Corolla hatchback. Quite a difference it was.

ca1n, how in the flip did you figure out that this car would be worth 4-6 grand if rebuilt??? I've seen even newer '00 Neons for $6K in good condition.
But still, it's a Neon, nice every day car.

Guys, I think you're forgetting that the Neon -- even if it has the Sport after it -- is not a sports-oriented car. It is an everyday cheap-to-buy and well not-as-cheap-to-maintain car. It is just like a Cavalier, and this model and the newer R/T's are very similar to a Z24 (and as for the SRT-4, that thing has no comparison in the Cavalier line, making it one of the most amazing "budget cars" in the market), only that Neons have MUCH LESS maintenance required. Believe me, I used to own a '94 Neon and '97 Z24, so I know exactly how **** Cav's are. BUMP for you! I was the first to comment you on your honesty, and I still have to admit you're as honest as they come on RFD!
EDIT: If y'all want GOOD car advice from a man that knows his sh*t (that would be me in this case), then I suggest you either buy a 'Vette (if you're into domestics) or a 'Line (if you're into imports). Simple as that. Leave the Italians and Germans out of your head, because you're either gonna be "Breaking Your Wallet," buying "The People's Car," or simply "As*-Licking Many Girls." Okay, I love M-Power and AMG, but I never try to thrive for something I know I am not going to be able to afford in the next 10 years. Import yourself a Skyline GTS-4 (best car because of 4WD, 220HP turbocharged I6, not-too-fast speed, not-too-expensive insurance, and its overall rarity and sports class) or buy a normal C6 Corvette. If you're on RFD, fact is you're looking for bargains in everything, so the GT-R and Z06 are simply out of question for the most of you.

Bump for Honesty.
A heads up to anyone anyone who is thinking about buying it.
I changed the head gasket in my '97 myself. Non mechanic but handy with tools. I did it in my garage over 2 days, no special tools were required other than a torque wrench. I just borrowed the Chilton's from the library and returned it with a few greasy handprints :cheesygri
Take lots of pictures with a digital camera as you take it apart and it should go ok for you.

This is a great price for cheap transportation.
I was the seller, I'd just take it to the auction with a $1000 reserve. Most Neons of that era with a few more K's on it were going for $13-$1500 last weekend at Regal Auctions in Calgary.
