I'm ashamed to ask for help with my ipod shuffle. Woe is the day that some google searching wasn't able to point me to a solution. :-(

Short story. No matter what I do (and i've tried a lot of things), whenever data is copied to my new ipod shuffle, the thing resets itself. It can stay connected forever without a problem until files are copied to it.

With itunes uninstalled it goes like this. plug in, flash green, flash amber/green, usb connected sound, flash amber, connected as usb drive, i try to copy files, one or two copy over, lights go out and usb disconnected sound, 2 seconds later flash green, flash amber/green, usb connected sound... etc etc etc.

Itunes installed gives the same type of thing. connect ipod, itunes brings up dialog with ipod name, hit next a couple times, itunes tries to copy setup files, ipod disconnects, 2 seconds later ipod reconnects, itunes brings up dialog, hit next a couple times, itunes copies stuff and ipod disconnects, ipod reconnects, etc etc.

Tried all 4 built in USB ports on my nforce 2 (asus a7n8x-8) mobo. I'm not trying to use a hub or crappy front ports. The ipod battery is charged. all my other usb devices have no issues.

I can copy music over one file at a time as i described above in USB drive mode as long as i sit and wait for it to reset between each file. Then using the ipod database builder on sourceforge i am able to listen to mp3s. but that's not a viable solution.

Anyone ever heard of this kind of thing?

p.s. i posted a similar message on ipodlounge but no responses yet.
