Ive read some reviews on the X800GT. The X800GT wins some comparisons but the 6600GT OWNS the X800GT in DOOM3, but i dont play that game. Also, the X800GT Comes with the theatre, chip, WHAT IS IT?
I can get an X800GT for $160. Should i get this or:
A 3000+ s939 winchester AND a MSI 6600gt for $320???
I mean, i think the 6600gt is better b/c it doesnt loose by much to the X800gt and OWNS it in DOOM3(open GL). But the X800GT wins like 70% of the time by just a little bit and when 6600GT wins, its by A lot.
I guess its the Theatre chip taht may make my decision.
Anyone with their opinion on which i should get?

Depends. Try asking yourself if you really want to bother spending $100 for a S939 3000+ Winchester (is it used?). As for ATI's Rage Theater chip, it is primarily for better video content rendering for streams both in and out, resulting in higher quality image results.
Anyway, the X800GT is $194 brand new. The MSI 6600GT is $220 new. But the X800GT is definately the better card. I read on the Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=25027) that HKEPC calls it the 6600GT killer. And from their benchmarks (http://www.hkepc.com/hwdb/x800gt-5.htm), it beats the 6600GT in practically everything - and often by a healthy lead, not as marginally as you put it. As for Doom3, it only won on low-res, but in high-res the X800GT catches up and edges over the 6600GT. Btw, X800GT also smoked the lights out on 6600GT in HalfLife2. In short, the X800GT is superior in virtually all benchmarks (except Doom3 in low-res), it's clocked lower, runs cooler, and costs alot less. It truly is a 6600GT killer.

^ agreed, as much as I want to say 6600gt...the x800gt smokes it and it uses the same core as the x850 series (correct me if I'm wrong) so you have lots of headroom to OC.

You're somewhat correct :) - some of the X800GT's will be based on the R480 (X850XT) core. Most X800GT's however will be using the R423 core. I know PowerColor's X800GT will be using R480.

(Disregard the price in the link people, it's in aussie dollars!)
"At time of writing, these are the only X800GT's confirmed to use the R480 (X850XT) core." - whenever that was... I'm sure there are other manufacturers who will offer the X800GT in the R480 core by now or very soon.

I must really be living under a rock these days, where can I get one of these X800Gt for $160? :)

Yeah, i thought about it for a bit and there's no way the X800GT would cost as little as $160. And it can't be used since these are all new cards and are still not being offered by local dealers. So far I've only been able to find them available for purchase online.
Such as NCIX who has these cards for $194 and $228 (128mb/256mb version):

If the op can let us in on where this great deal is coming from it would be great. ;)

o, about the $160 thing.. im in HK, and I saw one at a store in a computer centre for $1080HK. u guys do the converting to CAN... i used 6.3, is that rite?(obviously i can bargain it down!)
Also, i read reviews on the R480 core. It doesn OC too much as its near its max mhz already. since the X800GT OC'ed beats the 6600gt, would the 6600GT OC'ed beat back the OC'ed X800GT???

I'd take the 6600
wait for a pricematch opportunity and grab 2 and slap em in SLI mode

what a waste of money. For the price of 2 6600GT + premium of a SLi board u can get a X800 XL which smoke it.

Go for the X800GT. You get a better GPU, plus it's cheaper. If you are lucky, you might even score a R480. Radeon is faster in DirectX games, GeForce is faster in OpenGL games. DOOM 3 and Quake are both OpenGL games, but majority of PC games are DirectX.

Well if your mobo support SLI, i would go for 6600gt cuz later on you can add another 66700gt to speed it up.

For less than the price of two 6600gt, you can get a X800XL, which beats 2 X 6600gt in most games. X800XL is 256MB, you will be stuck with 128MB if you get 6600gt (even in SLi).
Two 6600gt use more power, generate more heat and noise.
