View Full Version : Tim Hortons Tips

Here are some tips ;) (Many people may know a lot of these already) I will add more as I think of them.

Hot drinks

-When ordering black coffee or hot chocolate, ask for it to be double-cupped, as it's quite hot. Bagged tea is double-cupped already, but not steeped tea.

-IMO, don't order the steeped tea during non-busy times.... sometimes it sits there for a very long time.

Decaf Coffee:

-When ordering a decaf, say large decaf double double, not large double double decaf, b/c decaf is its own catagory. They will have to repunch it in, or they may forget to and just serve you regular coffee.

-Watch the employee pouring the coffee... they very often forget to put in decaf. The pot with an orange rim will have the decaf, the rest will be regular. Don't stare though ;)

Ice Caps

-at some busy Tim Hortons, the ice cap machine is used so much that the mix can't freeze on time. It then becomes watery. Do not get mad at the employees for this, it is not there fault. It's just the way the machine is built.

-ask to have it made with milk or chocolate milk, instead of cream

Sandwiches

-the general order is

type of sandwich
toasted or not toasted bread
white or whole wheat bread
sauces/customizations (no tomoatoes, extra bacon, etc)

-When ordering a garden veggie, egg salad, or chicken salad sandwich, along with a drink, always get the combo with the donut. It is actually cheaper with a donut then without. For the other sandwiches, it is 16 cents more for a donut (on top of your sandwich/drink).

-Salads are made in-store and all vegetables are fresh

-If you don't eat pork, don't order the club sandwiches: they include bacon.

-IMO, the best combo for the money is the soup and bagel combo for 3.85

Other tips

-there are two types of hot cappochino's (sp).. French vanilla and English toffee... if you wan't a plain one, go to starbucks

-You should always test your French Vanilla/English toffee/hot chocolate before you leave the store, as the machine sometimes gets clogged, so no mix goes into your drink, only hot water.

-instead of asking for a cafe mocha, ask for a coffee with half hot chocolate. You should only be charged the price of a coffee, so it is much cheaper than getting the mocha (just no whipped cream)

Baked goods

-Yes, it's all frozen stuff that is shipped to the store, put in the freezer, and put in the oven when it needs to be made.

-The triple berry glazed are pretty gross, and dutchies and chocolate croissants sit there for a lonnnng time.

-if you want, ask for things to be heated in the microwave... makes the chocolate danish 10x better

yeah, I've written much about TH in the forums in the past. I did give them a second chance and it was good for about 1 or 2 cups of coffee, but it turned downhill soon after that.

My last encounter was about a month ago.

I ordered a small coffee. she asked if i wanted cream and sugar. I said, no thanks, just black.

She gives me! cream. I told her I wanted just black. She said "you asked for cream". I said " no, thanks, just black" She gives me! this pissed off look and pours another cup and places it ontop of the display counter, not next to me! like the first cup. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, but didn't want to acknowledge that the cup was up on top of the display counter and waited there, pretending to wait for the coffee still.

She snickered something like: "it's over there!" point to it and not really looking at it or at me!

Is it my fault the she misunderstood me! it wasn't a busy TH and I was the only customer. There was no background noise, and I annunciated my request loud and clear.

To boot it off, it was one of the worst th coffees i've had in a long time, right after i gave them a second chance.

Just search Tim Horton's in the forums and you'll see all my rants about them.

99% of the population follows them like a religion? ha, those 99% must be as gullable as those who followed david koresh.

If you order succinctly and intelligently, customer service usually improves dramatically.

There are few things in life as irritating as someone hemming and hawing for minutes while people with cumbersome burdens like "work" or "life" are slowly being murdered by this time killing individual. :|

Talk to the manager about it. Tell them what happened and how their service is suffering. If you just walk away without telling anyone, no one knows.

I know this because I used to work at TH. If the manager cares at all about their job or business, they'll react to that. I've seen a few employees leave because of their shite behavior.

this was a one person operation, inside a hospital. the th was probably no bigger than an regular sized office room. So there is no one to complain to but the person who served me!

That won't do any good.

I was being polite and courteous, but the thing was, she was mad that she had to pour out the first cup of coffee down the drain for HER mistake. Then she puts the new cup on the top of the dispay counter (at about 5' in height) and way off to the end. this time no double cup, so the coffee nearly burns my fingers.

She mumbled in a grumpy voice "it's over there" pointing and not really looking at it or me!

I was polite when she tried to argue that I told her i wanted cream in it.

I got everything from her: rolled eyes, lip, grumpiness, rudeness, sabotage in trying to burn my fingers to deliberate deception in placing the coffee far from reach. to top it off I also got lousy coffee.

I was told this weekend, that the list of ingredients on the TH coffee packs (the foil wrapper or product sheet) lists LIQUID NICOTINE as a preservative.

I laughed my arse off!

that explains alot!

I'm starting to cut back on my TH intake. I rather make a fresh, fresh cup at home these days.

I think this has gone a long way towards the demise of Tim Horton's donuts. I know they used to have bakers in the back actually making fresh dough and making the donuts right on the premises. I guess in the last couple of years, they switched over to the frozen stuff. They make it all at central locations and ship the frozen dough to your local Timmies. That's why their stuff has tasted stale or like crap in recent years.

Sounds like u havent had sex in a while.

I drink Tims if someone buys it for me but I prefer Williams or second cup.
Tims donuts/cookies have gone to hell in a handbasket since they started cooking them offsite. I think the cookies have styrofoam in them. The Dutchie, which is a premium donut, is now one of the smallest on the shelf.
Second cup cookies are mile better, but then, they're more than 30cents.

I'm not into the morning lineup at Tims, I especially hate it when I can't get gas because the parking lot is littered with Tim-Moonies dying for their fix.

I think that if u want a sandwich, get out of the damned drive-thru lane.

People line up like crazy for Webers. They make one lousy tasting hamburger.
But its tradition.

My rant is done.

Headhunter, if you can't wait while someone hums and haws at donut shop, you're prime material for a cardiac episode. Not everyone is in panic mode where decisions need to be made in a flash.

Seven, including 5 broken ones in the basement?

Who needs 7 coffee makers? Hell Starbucks has less machinery than you.
When do u have time to go buy someone's else's coffee?
In fact when do u have time for work, while you're consuming all this coffee?

It works with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Consistently mediocre product and you can't get 2 seats side by side at the box office.

Okay, here goes. let's see if i can remember. (all are working)
1. Saeco espresso machine (best purchase I've made )
2. Delonghi espresso machine (stupid gift, but an espresso machine nonetheless)
3. Bodum french press (3 cup size)
4. no name french press (single serving)
5. Melitta drip coffee machine (6 cup size)
6. no name single serving size drip coffee machine
7. another no name single serving coffee maker that sits ontop of the cup and only releases the coffee when you place it ontop of the cup, but not when it is placed on the counter and brewing. very similar to french press.
8. another fancy coffee contraption made out of two glass vessels that looks like it belongs in a chemistry lab rather than in the kitchen cupboard. Still don't know how the physics work, but it makes good coffee and good conversation.

Well, what do you know. I have EIGHT coffee machines. All working too.

Some people have busy lives to get back to.

A bit of decision making is understandable, but what I usually observe is somoene blabbing (to friend, co-worker, on the phone, etc) and then arriving at the counter without any purchase in mind. I find that inconsiderate...

Ever notice that if you order the ICE CAP, that they only fill it less than half way in the cup, then mix it in the blender and it magically fills the whole cup (with air bubbles? I finally noticed that and I feel like I was cheated out of ICE CAP, why not just fill the whole thing and then mix it just alittle bit?

I used to own a coffee shop, so I had to go to coffee college...

TH coffee is crap. They use Robusta beans, even MacDonald switches to Coffea Arabica.

Quote from www.coffeereview.com of Robusta...

"Robusta is a lower-growing, higher-bearing tree that produces full-bodied but bland coffee of inferior cup quality and higher caffeine content than Coffea arabica. It is used as a basis for blends of instant coffee, and for less expensive blends of preground commercial coffee."

Price wise, Robusta is as low as 50 cents per lbs, Arabica from $5.00 per lbs.

Starbucks, Second Cups, MacDonald deserves to charge more. On the other hand, TH way overcharges for their coffees.

When it's available, my favourite is a cup of Irish cream at Second Cup. But I don't have Second Cups nearby, so the best I can do is Timmy's. Even if their product isn't the greatest, my daily routine of buying a morning steeped tea has turned into habit.
