Don't want to buy retail ... too expensive
Don't want to buy on E-bay .... not experienced enough for that .

Not afraid to buy online from trusty online shops

But prefer local , GTA/North York/Thornhill shops , that I can give my cartridges to , and come an hour later , and have them refilled for less than retail. Cost is what matters here , but I need decent quality for school projects and such.

Lexmark retail ink is just unbelievably expensive !

Thanks !

Office Depot sell house brand Lexmark cartridges. Somewhat cheaper.

Staples will give you $5 off when you give them your old cartridge.

I tried refilling them using ink supposedly formulated for Lexmark, but it gummed up in 2 days and wouldn't work.

Seeing that a cartridge seems to last a month, that $89. laser at NCIX looks better than ever.

I have a lexmark Z11 with 12A1970 black cartridge.
I bought ink from Island Inkjet, the kiosks that you see all over the place and in Walmarts and looks to work out to about $5 a refill (I got the 8 refill pack for $40)
I've refilled my cartridge two or three times and have had no problems.
This is one area related to computers that my Dad had the jump on me.
He has been refilling for a few years. :)

Juse remember not to let the cartridge dry out before you refill or you're hooped.

DAMN !
So you're telling me I just got ripped off ?
Just stepped back from the Office Depot on Hwy 7 and Weston Rd.

Bought a refill kit made by Jet Tec
It's a Black Refill Kit for Lexmark printers , and it says : Refill your cartridge up to 6 times !
There are three small 30ml bottles , + one pinkish 30ml bottle that says : cartridge flush . Does anyone know if this is a good kit ? It's still sealed in the box .... so I can return no problem .

I don't want to open it and then be stuck with useless ink if it turns out that it's terrible quality .

By the way , the clearance sale SUCKS !

try island inkjet if you don't want to refill the cartridge yourself.

lexmark cartridges do dry up fairly easy, but you can tell when it's starting to dry in some spots.... use some rubbing alcohol and it will take it right off there, and print often, or it will dry up and you'll be screwed.

i've used that kit before... no problems with it. the pink is rubbing alcohol to clean the heads if they get clogged.

Using the right refill kit will ensure great results.
Never use universal brand inks when refilling your cartridges. The results will disappoint you. Since every printer uses different inks, it is very important to buy inks specifically designed for your printer.

Island Inkjet uses very cheap universal brand inks good for everyday black and white printing. However if you're printing photos and looking for better quality, only buy refill kits manufactured by Inktec.

Inktec only sells refill kits specific to each printer. They come with all the necessary tools for easy and mess-free refilling.

The only sidenote is that you MUST refill before your cartridge is dry. Otherwise the refill process will not work.

Okay sorry to bring up an old thread , but , I seem to have annoying problem .

My black ink cartridge , before and after prints , will end up looking like this :

http://www.futureway.com/~grilw/Picture 1242 (Medium).jpg

Basically what happens , is that , ink leaks onto the heads , dries up there , and prevents me from printing next time , unless i clean the heads , and waste a piece of paper , for the 'heads' to clean .

Is my cartridge pooched ?

I do not want to pay retail for cartridges !
What do I do ?

Thanks !

what the hell, any ink refill would do as in u can buy from local computer shops, costco, FS, LD, BB whatever...

some packages include a liquid that helps you clean your dried print head...you could also try steam the head...how u do it is boil water and u know some pots have a hole for the steam to come out, position the print head right at where the steam comes out, steam for about a minute or so and just wipe dry with tissue and ur done....

i have used that method to clean my print heads over my last 20 yrs

Thanks for the tip .

BUT

Is the ink SUPPOSED TO keep leaking out like that after every print ?
I mean .. I can't possibly get my hands dirty , or boil water , every single time I wanna print !!!
