Hi all

I need a laptop for school soon, and I need something portable and wireless for my house regardless, so I'm looking to buy one.. However, I seriously dislike Intel, and I'd like to fool around with Longhorn or other x64 OSes including Linux and OpenBSD, so I'm going to say no to Centrino and go with the Turion (I already know, lesser battery time, etc.)

Strong video is not very important, but I'd like a good display and a large harddrive..

I haven't the slightest clue where the best laptop deals are, so maybe somebody can elaborate!

Thanks in advance

Acer TM4402.

Under $1500 you get: Turion 54. 100gb HD(4200 I guess since it doesn't say). 512mb RAM(2x256 sticks, blah). x700(64mb....boo). 15.4" Glossy screen.

Or the Acer TM5002, but its more basic and under $1200, Turion, 512, 60gb, onboard video, etc.

Besides those - aren't many Turions out as of yet. Unless you want the Ferrari :D

CanadaComputers has Acer notebooks powered by Turions. My friend got one for like a grand and it has a shiny TFT widescreen :)

Somebody told me not to go the Acer route, because RMA and/or repairs are extremely difficult with them (someone a notebook review forum told me there is only 1 center in all of Canada)

I was able to find this:

$1399

and Best Buy has it for $1299 so it's PMable ;o

Are the Acers a better bet than that?

Acer oly has 1 service center in Canada.

Conviently located in Toronto if I recall correctly..
