Never tried Sunshine Express.
Have you seen the new place Charlie's Lunchbox beside Campus Pizza? I heard they are going to serve sushi. Apparently the owner was the previous owner of Mr. Sushi near Fubar.

Noodle Hut > Sunshine Express
Dejiko, nyo!

Jia Jia Lok >> Noodle Hut > Sunshine Express.
Granted, I haven't been to Noodle Hut in a long time, so I don't know what it's like. But Jia Jia Lok is so so good and quite cheap. I love the Satay Fish particularly... it's the most expensive thing on the cheap-lunch menu at $6.20, but it's a big portion.
The last time I went to Sunshine I was dragged there by some friends... the meal I got was quite bad. In first year I would sometimes get the pork & egg on rice (uh, P1 I think?). But that was quite a while back.

i'm not in loo anymore, but when i was i loved sunshines... except after p4v i would get diarrhea. still, you can't beat 3.99 (i believe they raised the price now)
btw, jia jia lok was mad far from campus. no way i could make it there for food on foot and make it back for class.

i got diarrhea at sunshines too. it was pretty nasty
Mikey's wasn't bad... the price wasn't the cheapest in town but it was safe and edible.

Wings at Morty's on cheap nights are great too.
Jai Jai Lok is good, but expensive unless you're getting the lunch special.

I used to get P4 or a P2 from Sunshine's when I was at UW (I graduated last year). Sure, the dishes were, like, 80 percent rice and 20 percent actual food, but it was relatively cheap and filling ... especially in the day when a P4 cost $5 including a drink.

I've never eaten there, even if I get food for free there whenever i am in waterloo. I wonder why ;)

The taiwanese place is pretty good. Through it's a bit more expensive than Mr. Paninos or Sunshine (6 to 7 bucks for a decent meal). It's definately much cleaner and you get more meat than the other two places.
On another note, I still find it hilarious that the new owners of Mr. Paninos never bothered to change the signage and probably never will.

i don't like Sunshine..but my friends do due to the $$ factor.
I always go to Jia Jia Lok..but it's reallie expensive...(a beef rice noodle for almost $10  ), and now I heard nasty story from my friend about the owner...no more Jia Jia Lok...well actually no more Waterloo for me..moving out soon...
I like the bubble tea place next to Jia Jia Lok...u get bubble tea with ur meal...the foods are alright...although they don't have a lot of choices~
O I luv Morty...it's jux right next to my home...I m gonna miss their wings!!!

There's a Japanese buffet up near Connestoga Mall called Yummiyaki. I went there once but likely won't go back again....definitely not worth my money when compared to what you could get in Toronto. Weekend dinners are like $22-23ish I think, weekdays are a few buck cheaper...but the worst part is that you have to pay extra a la carte prices for sashimi and greentea icecream! What kind of "buffet" is that? :|
Like I said, I'm not going back there. I'll stick to Mr. Sushi to satisfy my Japanese cravings until I can come back to Toronto :)

Mr. Paninos is NOT clean. The guy uses the SAME hand to take cash that he uses to take the green onions and stuff to sprinkle on the food. He even cuts with that hand. But he has a sidekick that looks like Yao Ming now.
Sunshies is dirty, even the dining space, but its darn cheap and i live in the townhouses next to it. The guy can't really speak english and looks stoned everyday. At least he doesn't cook, well he cooked me one meal one day and i was like **** this is gonna suck. I like the chicken fried rice. $3.99 plus tax comes out to $4.27. Its filling and they stir fry it fresh so its nice and hot and filling (because of all the rice but has taste!).
The Taiwanese Place (Taste of Taiwan) is good! Its a tad expensive, like a $1 more but i get discount because i'm "supposedly" in the taiwanese club! (Just don't tell the guy i'm not in it hehehe) Well the only reason i get discount is because my roommates are on the exec. board of the taiwan club and i've been there so many times the guy figures i'm a good customer :) (Also probaly thinks i'm a cheapass). 11A is the best there.
I also find it funny how Mr. Panino's is too lazy to take down their signs. I was there once last yr, and I remember a brown guy and a white guy came in together and ordered a Balkan Chevap (on their menu, which they didn't take down). Anyways, the guy (the fat guy) said "Sorry, we don't make those at this time" And it was friggin lunch time lol. 99% sure the fat guy didn't even know what a balkan chevap was.

that's right...they have a AYCE jap buffet at king and northfield... i called them once to ask them what was on their menu... and then i asked them if they had sashimi... they said "no". i then politely asked them why they didn't have sashimi on their menu and then they said, "because then the customers come in and order only sashimi and we lose money.."
:?: i don't see those GTA jap buffets losing money... on the contrary, it must be a good money maker since there are sooooooooooooo many jap AYCE's now...
as for sunshine, the food is ok... but the BEST THING about sunshine is that sunshine man....
a person walks in:

YESSSSSSSSSS BUD. I used to eat there everyday or twice a day during exams. I love P4. I think i went an entire semester eating P4 almost every meal. P1 and C9 are also my weapons of choice, the shanghai noodles are too much, but tasty nonetheless.
I have many stories about that place though that are pretty bad, yet i still go. They must be making pretty decent money because there was a contractor there last semester and my Chinese friend told me that they were getting a custom house built.

Panino just keeps on raising thier prices. I remember when they first opened dumplings were only $5. I thnk they dont take down their sign because you're only allowed a certain number of chinese restaurants (or any other style) in one plaza. And since ther are just too many, they have to disguise themselves as an Italian sandwich place.
Shandiz is good too, had their lamb special a few time. But not filling enough.
If you have a car, I sugges Leung Yue. The owner is great, since we've been going there for 4 yrs now he recognizes us. Is you miss Toronto Fairchild TV, they show it all day. And sometimes he plays old Stephen Chow gambling movies, feels really at home. Also, on basketball and soccer game days, there's always a nice chinese crowd to go watch.
Food is pretty good, the soup is always good, really home cooked. And you get free rice too!!! People either go for dinner or hotpot, pretty good price all you can eat, and the beef is A Quality from Texas. Through these 3 yrs i think ive seen his kids grow and get richer. I mean we've been feeding his kids so much that the daughters at first had crappy desktops, now they have their own nice laptops.

His wife has like no feelings in her fingers, we are always amazed at how she can hold boiling hot soup wiht her bare hands, when we can hardly touch the bowl because it's so hot!!!

There was only one good Vietnamese place in K/W in my opinion. But that was years ago. This place has since moved to Cambridge about 4-5 years ago. It's still really good there. None of the ones in K/W now can compare to that

Man, i still go to Sunshine despite:
1) Seeing the sunshine man taking a P4 from a plate, sticking it in the microwave, reheating it and then serving it, (probably from last night, left out and just covered down).
2) My friend observed 2 people that went in and ordered, but hardly touched the food and just left it on the table. The sunshine guy just picked it up and took it into the back instead of throwing it away (probably reserved it).
3) The C9 i've gotten a couple times was just swimming in stale grease.
4) Seeing the sunshine man wipe his nose with his hands and then go to take out somebody's food.
Panino is just as bad, if not worse... The only reason i go back is for the cheap + fill factor >:(
