Just curious, because I do really enjoy these, but I can't notice they are at least an extra buck than the regular chips, and they come with much less overall grams in the bag..

Just curious why they're so much more expensive..

either its really production cost or just a marketing gimmick to fool you into thinking its worth the extra buck

even if it is baked, dont consume it to often

NOt enough sales to justify higher production.. So a smaller factory with less production capacity. Costs the same to run the factory, but less profit from it. Thus a higher price..

pretty much the new craze is eat healthier. they figure they can charge more for it, and people will still buy it. i don't like them as much though, but that was predictable, because they are taking out the key ingredients that make it taste good to begin with :)

would gladly buy these if the costs were a bit lower. Regular chips are decently priced but as many of you noted quite unhealthy.

Every now and then chips are a nice little treat.

No taste either. How often do you eat chips? Maybe once a week? Why not buy something with a little fat? It satisfies you much more. The regular Lays uses Sunflower oil and it has no trans fats.

They do have a taste its just people who have been eating chips all of ther lives love the taste. And the taste is different yes but there is a taste. If the chips had a little fat you would be fine but thats not the case even the ones with no trans fat as 12 grams per 20 chips so you could very well eat a whole days worth of fat intake just in chips. While the baked plain ones only have 2 grams per 27 chips.

good post.

Personally, I will pay a little extra for a healthier alternative, especially when the difference between the two is as considerable as it is. However, it is still disappointing how rare it is to see on shelves, and how much more it costs. The gap should be much closer than it is between baked and fried.

technically they are healthier...
its just thicker slices of potatoe in a big oven really.

To put it into perspective..

27 chips fried - 16g fat 1.5g sat fat
24 chips baked - 5g fat 1g sat fat

But I will say that at least the fried has cut out the trans fat and kept the saturated fat as low as it is.

Probably because they don't taste as good as regular potato chips.
I see nothing wrong with consuming healthy fats, just not the trans fats.
Potato chips should be eaten in moderation though, just like anything.

I just plain prefer the taste of them much better... Has nothing to do with the health issue; I'll eat anything..

Regular lays are like licking concentrated sheets of salt, they're way too salty for me, and even the baby-blue Lays (Less salt) STILL have an extremely salty taste to me

The baked ones are very crispy, and addictive.. You can plow through a whole bag in no time :/

That's the whole problem - eating a whole bag of any sort of potato chips (even baked) is not that good for you. Just eat in moderation.

I've had the less salty Lay's chips (blue bag) and they taste great.
Snacks should be eaten in moderation because they have less nutrition than regular foods.

Ah. I just ate a regular Lay's the other day and it was SO salty. I was like... do people actually consume these chips? No wonder North Americans in general are getting unhealthy.

Healthier versions of any snack food (chips, cookies, popcorn, etc.) always cost more than the regular versions.

I don't know if you guys are aware of this, but if you look at the ingredient list, the baked chips are reconstituted dehydrated potato flakes!

I haven't actually had these chips, but that statement alone turns me away...if I wanted reconstituted potatoes, I'd have gotten the (cheaper) baked pringles.
