Too bad you didn't ask a year earlier, I had most of those...

The Evan Weaver ones are the only books you actually need, they're like $15 apiece; used is like $2-3 off, might as well get the latest version.

Semester 1

The Unix book is GARBAGE; I might have read the intro, on the bus or something...totally useless. I was provided with interactive quizzes where you're provided with command queries, just use those like mad and you'll ace the class.

I don't recognize the ANSI book, but it doesn't sound too useful. You'll probably be asked to buy a basic Windows XP book too; if you can browse this website, you probably don't need it.

Semester 2

The SQL book in semester 2 is also a load of crap, as is the AS/400 one; I read those 2 a combined....3 hours? Your teachers will give you weekly updates on their websites, grab those.

INT222, that book doesn't sound familiar...I was told to buy the Visual QuickStart guides instead, and those are probably the only useful mainstream textbooks ever recommended to me by Seneca. They're like $20 each (the bookstore should have them for $50/all 3), get the QuickStarts if they're there. Excellent, excellent books.

Hope that helps. For Semesters 3/4, you get to pick your options, so my feedback won't mean much unless you went the same route as I did (and the courses haven't changed substantially in the last 4 years).

This is the correct answer. A good C++ and a good JAVA reference book should do you well. I hardly ever used most of my textbooks except in some database courses. Most of the other books are unnecessary. Often I used Books 24x7 to look something up. Gen Ed courses are different, of course.

You don't really need to buy any books in my opinion, all the resources can be found on google and course website. Prehaps the IPC book is the only one that I suggest to buy.
