Hey guys,
I did my search on RFD and didn't come up with anything, I am not sure if this is the correct forum to put it, here goes. I am trying to plan an birthday event for a mature crowd and would like to know what's the best options to consider.
Option 1 (Restaurant):
- budget $20 - $40/person
- approx 50 people
- good services
- decent looking rest
- preferably close to highway
- preferably close to richmond hill
Option 2 (Cater Services):
- place to get large amount of food for 50 people
- chinese food catered to white folks (ie Mandarian, Man-Cu-Wok (sp?))
I am planning it rather close, the event will take place Aug 20. So all advices will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for all the help.

*I heard that Ambassador and City Inn are owned by the same people.
I haven't been to Ambassador. I have eaten at City Inn and I thought that the staff were nice and spoke good English. The prices are a bit higher than typical Chinese restaurants so you should check out the menu. Usually, there is a wedding banquet at City Inn on weekends so you'll have to verify availability.*

*nice, big restaurant. excellent dim sum- very popular (long wait for a table). Never ate dinner there but I assume dinner is as good as dim sum.*
Chinese buffet places can be good or bad so I'm not a big fan...

Star Walk Buffet at Steeles and Midland is pretty good. I think dinner buffet is less than $20 per person. Lots of variety and quality is near the higher-end of chinese buffets.

Kev,
I have the best solution for you Re: a place in richmond hill
Marlowe's just opened up at Hwy 7 and 404, in the Plaza with Rocky Mountain high.
The absolute best settiing up there for a nice cajun-canadian-french fusion dinner.
Meets the criteria you state:
- budget $20 - $40/person
- approx 50 people
- good services
- decent looking rest
- preferably close to highway
- preferably close to richmond hill
It's a cozy environment, they play jazzy house music in the background, sometimes top 40 after 10. It also turns into a bit of a lounge after 11ish.
Definite must see, the food is great.
Popular dishes that I've had on numerous visits
The mason dixon shrimp
Marlowe Martini
Cajun Seafood Etouffe
General Tao Chicken
Jambalaya
The marlowe ostrich burger

If you have any questions or need a hookup, ask.
