I just made a grilled cheese sandwich and I added Bick's Hot Pepper Relish to it and grilled it up.
It was damn good!

I got the idea May 24 weekend while camping. I was drinking, making a grilled cheese over the fire and put this hot pepper in it. Damn good!

Does anyone else add to a grilled cheese?

I always eat it with tomato soup (can go super fancy with some grated cheddar and a dollop of sour cream) or Diana Maple Sauce.

why dont you expiriment with different types of cheezes?
or how about makign it with a light mozzerella and opening it up to spread on some avacado for a refreshing taste?

same..i do that each and every time! with kraft cheese slices..dunno if the brand makes the taste alot different

My gf uses ketchup, but I've never gotten used to it.

What about the difference between cheese a processed cheese? Personally, I like cheese slices more than slices of cheese.

Used an old cheddar.

I could see that working with a different cheese other than cheddar.. One that goes good with fruits and has a bit of a natural sweetness

This may sound kinda gross til you try it...

Grilled Peanut Butter! Instead of using cheese, use peanut butter. And if you like dipping your Grilled Cheese in ketchup, then try dipping your Grilled PB in Jam or Marmalade.

Got the idea from a friend who had one of those grilled sandwich makers that were popular in the last decade. She got bored of Grilled Cheese (since that was the only decent thing you could make with it) so she tried Grilled PB.

what does grilling a peanut butter sandwich really do though?
the peanut butter "melts" naturally from hot bread on its own usually.. tossing it in a pan would just do the same & make it even messier, no?

grilled chesse is my lifeforce :D i have perfected the recipe LOL

heres my combos...
cheese+ham=delcious
howto:
use 2 pieces of cheese and throw the ham in the middle perfection..

straight cheese
gotta use 2x slices of cheese for that extra deliciousness..

cheese+egg
fry and egg... sandwich it between cheese... 2x pieces.. awesome..

cheese+egg+ham=uber.
the bestest combine the 2

cheese+random meats in the fridge
pretty good.. doesnt matter what the meats are its all good...

and my personal favorite!!!
Cheese+pepperoni stick sliced up+egg
1 slice of bread put cheese on top.. slice up a pepperoni stick throw the pieces on chuck the fried egg in.. cheese ontop of egg.. than bread ontop of that.. grill it up all nice and delicious.. and eat..

as a side dish i usually have veggy soup :D

It's a lot like the difference between a cheap domestic beer and a quality import; both will work in a pinch, but you learn to appreciate the differences the more you drink (well, eat in regard to the cheese) them.

If you want to really tell the difference, don't go from processed cheddar to a "fresh" cheddar; go for something farther along the line, like a blue cheese. Done right (and to be honest, it's often done poorly), it'll change the way you look at dairy forever.

i love grilled cheese. but i've stopped buttering the bread so now it doesn't taste as good. i grew up eating grilled cheese and tomato soup. yummy. used to love dipping the sandwich in the tomato soup.
i now have my grilled cheese on wheat bread, no butter, and with tomato slices. :)

You can try to toast the bread first, and then grill it with the peanut butter.

I've done something similar (toasted bread a bit...then peanut butter...then toast again) and it's quite good actually.

Another thing to try though it's much more work involved: toast up some mushrooms with olive oil, pepper, and salt in the toaster so the flavors intensify. Sautee and reduce some onions in another pan until brown (you can even use some red wine here), then add the mushrooms. Lastly, put this stuff in a grill cheese sandwich made with some grated smoked gouda or some nice and old cheddar. All that trouble for a sandwich! :cheesygri

Isn't that just spoiled mayo?

A pretty good one is grilled cottage cheese with some grated parmasean.
I would like to try the red BabyBel cheese sometime.

Nothing beats Kraft Singles grilled cheese with ketchup.

I've used salami, onions or mushroom duxelles (a spread made of mushrooms with a bit of butter, sugar, salt & soy) on my grilled cheese. All yummy.

I keep the butter to a minimum by melting just what I need in the pan and then dropping in the bread to toast it, then laying on the cheese and then closing the whole works up.

Real cheese instead of processed, something sharp or stronger tasting is nice. And all different kinds of bread. The traditional grilled cheese is good, but with a little effort you can make a pretty nice 'high end' grilled cheese sandwich.

I like grilled cheese with roasted red peppers or salami or bacon, usually with nice thick pieces of old cheddar or monterey jack or havarti (I loooooooooove melted havarti - especially with tomato slices).

I grew up eating processed cheese slices but now the only time I can eat them is in a grilled cheese occasionally, especially with tomato soup, I just can't eat cheese slices on a cold "traditional" sandwich anymore

Hot PB&J is only good if you have one of those sandwhich makers, because it makes a little pocket for the gooey center and also pinches the sides closed.

As for grilled cheese...try it with some sharp cheddar and mix in some mozzarella, then throw some tobasco sauce on the bread before you put the cheese on. Grill that up and thank me later.
