Hey Guys,

Just wanted to report my HORRIBLE Experience I had with 'restaurant' called Pappa's Grill on 440 Danforth.

I went to Taste of the Danforth on Friday night (have been going for years now) with my sister, her husband, my neice and my nephew. We were all having such a fantastic time until we stepped into "PAPPAS GRILL".

First of all, I blame myself for even going there since they were not even participating with the taste of Danforth activities. It's just that everyone was hungry and wanted to sit. Normally I go to Astoria which is Excellent :).

When we sat down, the tables were still a bit dirty, had to wipe some ketchup off the table...but we thought forget it as they must be busy (it was ToD after all!). Then the waiter came, he asked us what we wanted to drink. WHILE we were giving him the order, he starts talking to his Friend!!....we looked like Fools...I was thinking, maybe this guy is Multitasking but NO!!!, he asks us again, and YET AGAIN, he goes off in a conversation with another waiter who passed him by . After we gave our drink and food orders we kindly asked him to light the candle on the table but he just stormed off , he probably had "Selective listening" ;). We just said forget it as we just wanted to eat. We did however ask a waiter that was walking by if he could light the candle for us which he did.

When the food came, everything came together on one plate...like the greek salad, bread, food, etc. Normally we are accustomed to having bread/salad first and then the main course. When we KINDLY asked the waiter if that was normal, he didn't even let us finish the sentence and picked up the plate and stormed off, showing his anger. Also, the fries my neice ordered were totally covered with salt. She spit out the first fry she ate since it cut her tongue. That was the breaking point. We decided to finally make a complaint.

When I saw a manager, she advised us that she will get us another waiter to serve us. She sounded like she really didn't care but gave us a minor fake apology that we accepted because we were very hungry and tired at this point. We waited, waited and waited for a waiter to come by...Nobody came by :(. We finally had to ask someone who was passing by if they can get us another plate of fries because of the salt. He said he will see if he can get the person who was waiting our table. When all the food had turned cold while waiting, everyone lost their appetite.

Everyone was in a bad mood at this point and my sister had enough. She wanted to talk to the manager with me. We found the manager and politely told her all the things that had gone wrong with our night. Instead of having ANY empathy, compassion or offering any compensation, she said that my brother-in-law 'yelled' at another waiter to light our candle and this is why ALL the waiters were 'scared of us'....HAHAHAHAHAHA, I never heard anything that ridiculous in MY LIFE!!!

My sister asked to speak to her manager....she said that "I am the Manager, Owner AND Supervisor" and she said she will not offer any compensation on the meal but I don't have to pay tip. We were so upset that we told her we will never be coming to this place again very rudely (not like she cared)...On top of that, she demanded we pay the bill at the register, we told her she can bring the bill back to us, she goes that she is not a server..haha, I go "Your the Manager, Owner AND the Supervisor...you might as well be a Server too!"

While we were paying our bill, we overheard the waiter telling her that some people just ran out without paying the bill. She told the waiter to call the police while I just smiled thinking 'Karma' is great... Atleast we knew we weren't the only ones who didn't like that place

Anyways guys, I know that this post/rant is a little long but I just wanted to share my experience. Other than this ordeal, I had a BLAST at Taste of Danforth just like I do every year, and I hope that everyone else did too!

If you guys want an experience like mine , please visit

maybe they are RACIST.

couldn't you walk out of the restaurant before eating the meals? they probably contaminated your food since the waiter seems so angry.

honestly, I'm scared of going to Greek restaurants (rude attitude).

I went there with my family because I didn't realize it was a holiday and all the restaurant was closed but this.

I bought a Pork Souvlaki with Greek Salad and Fries. And it tasted like crap. I didn't even finish it. I just starved. It's a terrible restaurant. I don't think they are even Greek.

thanks for the warning.. i would have been really pissed if that all happened..

i would have called over the waiter who lit my candles and asked if he thought i was rude...informed the manager if all their wait staff are rude like the original one and if HE has some kind of problem (if its his regular shift) because he doesnt seem want to be working here... then when she informs me he is a relative (as the usual case may be) i'd say "THAT SUCKS, you're stuck with him"...loll

When I went to the Friendly Greek about 6 years ago, I didn't realize that the white sauce was Tzatziki. I asked them what was it exactly and when he came back with my food, he gave me a whole bunch and said those were it. Free Tzatziki for asking a dumb question. :)

Did I miss something? Where did the OP mention her race?

I hate it when people pull out the race card for no fvckin reason making the issue bigger than it really is.

The OP had terrible service at a terrible restaurant.

thanks for the heads up....yeah...i have had my fair share of greek food stories. Well, chinese is not that far off...onwers/waiters will not even translate the chinese menu for you (that's were the good food are) saying that everything thing is located in the english menu (which is complete bs). And this is coming from a guy who can't speak chinese but looks chinese!!

Cool.. I remember seeing it made on Christine Cushing Live on Food Network

It is quite a tasty sauce ;) I'd definitely use more garlic though

I wouldn't pay for that meal. If they were that rude, I'd order the stuff and as they were preparing it, I'd walk out and say I'm not hungry.

Can't do nothing.

that waiter and manager are horrible. check to see if they have a website and whether or not the owner names are mentioned. it really doesn't sound like she's an owner to me. when that waiter first walked away angrily with the food on one plate, i would have just flagged him back and tell him that i was going to eat elsewhere because of his rudeness and leave.

i haven't been to pappas grill since the mid 90's. waiter was fine. just found the prices too high compared to other greek restaurants.

one time, i found the waiter rude at athenian's garden so i gave a big fat 0 tip and never returned.

astoria gives great service. waiters are nice and friendly. excellent lamb souvlaki dinner.

Stop with all the random racist comments...Why is it racist when we call people for who they are...Such as Greek, Chinese, African, or whatever...Grow up buddy and stop being politically correct.

Its soo stupid now its not even funny. Now people aren't suppose to call the blackboards a "white" blackboard or "black" blackboard.

Sickens me...With all these racist crap.

Oh ya to the original poster, you guys shoulda just not paid and walked out like the others did...Even if they called the cops, you will be justified because of their poor service...You weren't satisfied.

They can still get the police to press charges - as it is a crime to leave without paying.

If you complain to the police that you shouldn't have to pay, they will tell you it's a civil court matter.

Pfft. Just tell the cop you saw the waiter/chef come out of the washroom without washing their hands and that you lost your appetite. That should do it.

So?

That's like telling the cop not to arrest you for beating up the man who's having sex with your wife.

It doesn't change the fact you committed the crime.

my friend had a really bad experience at Papa's grill on the same night you did. I wonder if she was with the people who skipped out on their bill =x

She's on RFD, so maybe she'll show up and mock Papa's grill a bit more

Hey Guys,

I want to first thank everyone for all the support!! You guys are awesome..:)

I just wanted to share my experience with you guys so nobody else has to go through what I went through. I wish something could be done about this but I guess it's too late. It only bothers me because that so-called "Manager/Supervisor/Owner" was just soo rude and thought that we could do absolutely NOTHING. I told her that I would share my experience and she just laughed it off saying "go ahead". Thank God for RFD as now a whole lot of ppl will know how much PAPPAS GRILL IS GARBAGE and ONE OF THE WORST places I have ever been to. Ahh well, I guess you live and you learn.

Thank you once again for all the support and I hope you guys all have a great weekend!

Yer not obligated to eat contaminated food and any cop who can't see his way out of that one needs some sort of desk job. The law isn't black and white. It's interesting shades of grey.
