PC Game Addict Drops Dead After Marathon Play
A man in his 20s who had been playing computer games continuously for over 50 hours died of exhaustion on Friday.
Daegu police said Monday a 28-year-old man identified by his family name of Lee collapsed as he was playing computer games at an Internet café in Bokhyeon-dong, Buk-gu. A former colleague who was next to him at the time took him to hospital, but he was dead within three hours.
Lee had been playing games like Starcraft for some 50 hours without sleep from about 9:00 p.m. Wednesday until the moment he died on Friday. "I tried to persuade him to go home, but he kept saying, 'Just one more game' and wouldn't budge from his seat,'" the former colleague said. The Internet café’s proprietor said Lee hardly ate. “I asked him to at least take a nap in my room, but it was no use."
Since being fired early last month over his frequent absences due to his game addiction, Lee had been coming to the PC café every day to play, police said. They believe Lee died of an exhaustion-induced heart attack.
The head of the mental health department at Daegu Fatima Hospital, Park Yeong-woo, said, "Computer game addiction, just like alcohol and drug addiction, is a disease accompanied by withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, irritability and depression... It can easily affect people who are compulsive or introverted, and they need constant help from those around them so they can be treated."

Not me, but my brother played FF7 for about 45 hours straight after getting it for Xmas and I watched him play through most of it. He wasn't a fool though, he ate and went to the washroom.
The longest I've probably played for is about 10-12 hours on Half Life 2 (beat it early the next day) and FF6.

I played Max Payne one the PS2 for like 20 hours when I got it. It was damn rivetting. Same with Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault. I haven't found a game worthy of extended play since; which is a mixed blessing. :D

Haven't really played for long periods without ANY sleep, but I have played for long periods with minimal sleep (like maybe 3 hours or so).
Longest continuous would be >24 hours, <48 hours, never kept track.

When I was a teenager, my friends and I played a combination of games for 28 hours straight. It was Resident Evil on PS and Mario Kart.
We would take turns playing RE throughout the night (well, one of us played while the others watched -- hey, it was a scary game for teenagers) and during the day, we played Mario Cart, four players.
It was crazy. Fortunately, we had stocked up on food -- chicken fingers, beef patties, candy, chips, instand noodles, even fruits -- and we werne't that dumb to not take a washroom break or food break.
It was fun.
On my own, I have played all the major sports on the EA library for at least 8 hours straight on different days of course. The franchise mode can get pretty addicting, especially if you wheel and deal a lot or make edits to your players ability.

But that game is my all time favorite. COME ON SONY MAKE A REMAKE FOR PS3.

i think i played a combo of Diablo 2 and CS at some net cafe from midnight to noon around 4 years ago. I'll never do that again, although I played world of warcraft for like 6-7 hours once on my day off.

I've wasted a LOT of hours playing Starcraft.
I've probably had some 10hr+ sessions playing TFC, Half Life, Day of Defeat, and CS.
Not to mention even way further back, I had some pretty huge marathons playing CivII, Master of Orion, and SimCity. Those games really really sucked my life away!! (but still well spent in hindsight hehe)

Man thats 2 people.. I'm #3.
Same scenario
Christmas 1997..a 16yo CodecX gets a PS1 and FF7.
Now if you remember, those models had a serious overheating problem. The FMV right before the crazy motorcycle chase boss, it started to get super bad, but I did not want to do stop...so I got those gel ice packs
(the medical ones that you use when you have a sprain)
and put em at the bottom of the playstation, and waited....2-3 minutes and the thing started to play the sequence again.
I started at 3pm and played it all night and finally got outta Midgar... at the chocobo ranch at 8am the next day, saved.. tried to take on the big worm, died.. went to sleep ;) so 18h. It started to overheat around 4-5am or so... ya:)
FYI i did not continue to do that. I got it out of my system and decided I'm not going to ice down my PS1 every night. Aeris died about 30 minutes before 1998 rolled in.. I gave up cuz #1 that really really really sucked... and #2 Realized it was almost New Years. lol
8 years have passed, I can still game like that but only after the sun goes down. I get headaches when I play a lot during the day, but I think its because I do not eat. haha.. As for an 18hr trip. Have not done one in a long time. They have not make a game worthy of an 18h trip ;) ...if only Xenosaga was longer and more captivating..
I did a smaller (12-13hr/day for 4 day) thing with FF9. That is one long game the first time through!
Here's hoping for FF12 to be good.
...here's quietly hoping for a Chrono Trigger 3 or remake...

Most i played in a row was probably 12 hour or so playing Nintendo as a kid. Now I don't play games as much anymore, but internet I've been doing 24/7 for quite a while now! LOL :cheesygri

People who frequent internet cafe's deserve to die. Those places are rife with diseases and stuff. I have visited 3 iCafe's in my lifetime and every single one of them had the stench of sweat and some form of excrement. DISGUSTING!

civilization 2 against my arch nemisis, maybe 9hrs, we used to download p*rn and watch it while we played civ2 with the sound track from "The Rock" playing on the background.
starcraft was pretty good too, i think I might have had 3-4 hrs max of starcraft.
Romance of the 3 kingdoms 2 & 3 in multiplayer mode was pretty good too, I think maybe 4-5 hrs max on that.
oh yes I almost forgot street fighter 2, when that came on SNES it was like cocaine to me. The port from the arcade was just incredible, I could not get enough of it.

I probably went 7-8hrs straight when I was playing Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty. Man that was an insanely hard game--click a half a second slower and you are screwed.
And Homeworld 1 because I was trying to salvaging EVERYTHING, which was insanely hard as well.

Sony already said they wont be making a remake. Last year there was alot of hype for a remake called Chrono Break. But later on got cancelled.
So I really hope they remake FF7.

Americas Army - over 18 hours (Took a nap and started again)
World of Warcraft - over 20 hours (Took a nap and started again)
Both happened the same way. It was my weekend, had nothing planned and ordered two large pizzas and a case of Dr Pepper. I didn't move for my chair for a while, and I was still in my boxers.
While I was addicted to Americas Army, I gained 65 pounds and lost my girlfriend that I still love. After I quit, and lost my girlfriend I lost all the weight and I'm in the best shape I've been in.
While playing WoW, I gained 10 pounds and hurt alot of my friends for stupid reasons. I now am looking on the positive side of life (Which isn't easy right now) and I'm trying to be more motivated for life in general.

In my defense there were 6 of us.... Ermmm.. OK, defense withdrawn.

I did Diablo II for about 20 hours straight on a couple of occasions and basically blew a whole summer on it. Luckilly I was able to cash out for a few grand and at least get something for those wasted hours of my life. Ever since I left that game, I haven't played any games except for maybe 10 mins here and there.

done a couple of overnighters at a local lan gaming place, 10PM-7 or 8AM so about 10 hours max for me.
I'll play games for longer, but not without taking a decent break.
