Jennings, 66, the Toronto-born newsman, quit smoking 20 years ago, but admitted that he started again after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

He was born in toronto grew up in ottawa and moved to new york.
And became a US citizen. He was okay for a talking head, one of the better ones.

At the risk of sounding inciting, what made him so great? He was paid to read the news, and paid rather well. Just because he was born in Canada, doesn't mean anything (to me).
I hate how society put so much of themselves into the lives of others; namely celebrities. I don't want to say who cares, because his family obviously does. I just cringe when ever I hear people who don't know him act like they've lost a close friend. It never fails, anytime high profile person passes on and they interview people on the news, someone will invariably say "s/he was like one of the family; we'd watch him during dinner time" then sob.
You stupid people!

Sad day: guys like Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw just bark the news, Peter Jennings was like the older relative you respect who's enlightening you to the world.
RIP, Peter.

God Bless Peter Jennings. Great gentlemen all-round. Someone anyone could trust. Had that great smooth anchorman voice and fortay.
Anything over 50 is considered a blessing to some. He lived till 67, which ain't shabby.
I still miss watching his news casts. Will be GREATLY missed around North America and maybe abroad.
