Noticed this at FS, seems to be $500 off for a relatively new model, looks great in black compared to their older series in silver

No, the price error was on a 42" HDTV plasma set, priced at $2499

Comparing to the Sony KF42WE620, which one would be the better model? I like the look on the hitachi. Would someone suggest which one would be better out of the two in terms of technology?

wow, the Costco TV's were really good deals. Actually, the TVs there now are still good deals. I got the Daytek 32" LCD for $1299 and it apparently uses NEC panels, so I think I got a good deal. The Date of Manufacturing is May 2005, I bought it in June.

very tempting... i was looking for an lcd tv for a while, and this may just be in my price range.

Anyone knows if it comes with a foot, or does it have to be wall mounted? Any reviews on the image quality?

It seems to look pretty decent..

This is an LCD Projection TV, not an LCD flat-panel. (I think)

I have admired both of these TVs at FS - I really like the Sony but everytime I look at thei Hitachi - I say WOW - that looks good. It may be partly to do with how it is set up at that store - the Hitachi has a dedicated DVD player attached to it while most of the other TVs are fed with a common signal.

I am still cautious about the bulb replacement costs - the Sony is about $250 and is home user servicable - I think that the Hitachi bulb is well over $300 and may not be home user servicable.

From my research hitachi is supposed to make one of the best LCD projection HDTVs in the market. Superior to Sony, Panasonic, or Samsung offerings. $1999 is a pretty good price for this but I think you can get it for even cheaper at 2001 audio video with some haggling. The "outlet" store at kennedy/ellesmere is a good place to try.

They're also an auth dealer for Hitachi product.
