Does anyone know of a place to download free ringtones?

To start the chain here's one place:
http://www.ufone.ca/

Don't expect to see any popular tones here! :?

Spread the word if you know of any places that have free ringtones! :)

Looks good if you have the built-in Nokia composer, unfortunately the 8290 I have doesn't have a composer and only accepts ringtones via SMS.

It was posted on here a while back about free ringtones, but it was reported by someone that they started getting junk mail/messages on their phone after doing this. After hearing that, I didn't ever try the free ones...

Can anyone confirm this?

You can send it via SMS using ICQ.

get the ringtone you want in RTTTL format. Then go to http://cellphones.about.com/library/bl_rc.htm and paste in the RTTTL in the text box. Convert it to the format of your phone (there's many options). Open ICQ, add your cell phone as a new icq sms user. send the sms to your cellphone.

There are flaws though. SMS is short in length so you can't send tunes that are too long. it'll get cut off, then your phone won't recognize it as a ringtone.

Forgot to mention that this won't be free for fido users. Actually, I'm not even sure if it works for Fido. I tried it on Rogers and it worked.
