Not sure, but the MSN 7 beta was leaked months in advance, and MS had no problem with that.

Initial rollout is for both MSDN and TechNet subscribers. However, it's likely that a public beta will be on MS' website in the next little while anyway.

It asks for SP2...I think I'll stick with Firefox for now.
Can't be bothered to update to SP2 since I have no problems with SP1.

lol why bother with IE7 when FireFox will ruin it anyways....even other other browser for that matter...Opera, Netscape(eww)....and the list can go on and on and any of the bunch is better than IE...

FWIW, according to this (http://msfn.org/comments.php?shownews=13836) report on MSFN, there will be no public Beta 1.
No big deal, Firefox is still better.

Its cool for this PC, as I am at work and its a test PC anyhow. lol
Its OK. Nothing firefox hasn't done, but its got the tabbed browsing..
I don't like the fact that the address bar is 'stuck' at the top of the window. As a preference, I prefer it to go after the File, edit.. view..etc.
I find it also funny how its got the built-in Google search like in Firefox... yet google is a rival of theirs for their search engines. :P

What is it that you think is wrong with 2k? I choose to run it on my work laptop, the O/S license is actually for XP. The only issues I have had are that Media Player 10 and now IE7 are not compatible, I think I'll live...

What is the upgrade for Win2000? (unless you're referring to constant service pack updates being released?)

Ooooooooooooooh.. good 'ole WinXP (note, it wasn't labelled with a date like prior Windows.. HMMMmmmMmm)
Now I'm curious.. what's the vast improvement that XP offers that 2000 never has.

i know win xp is old too (4 years) and it uses the same kernel.
but it also offers improvements like faster boot time, more compatibility with different (newer) hardware, and more software support(cough, cough)
comon, you gonna argue that people shouldn't upgrade if they want to use the latest software?

I dunno.. I haven't known anyone using Win2000 who complain about the issues you listed.
I don't see the point of spending more money to get what you've already got.. Xp has plenty of problems too.

same kernel? uh, no, it's quite better... in terms of functionality *and* performance.
why is it that threads regarding Microsoft software on RFD tend to bring out all the l33tH@X0r know-it-alls who have probably never worked in an enterprise I.T. environment before and presume their home knowledge of "tweaking WiNdOZe" equates to some sort of divine awareness...

then according to you, theres no point in even making a new OS, why fix it if it ain't broken.
those are not problems i listed, those are improvements.
technically they are the same, with win2k being NT 5.0 and XP being NT 5.1
Microsoft just improved it a little but its still essentially the same code.

I will agree with you.. Windows is broken.. but I wouldn't consider XP being a fix.
feel sorry for you, win 2k is 5 years old.
Considering XP will soon be 5 years old.. will you feel sorry for yourself using it?
Also considering the new Windows Vista will at some point be 5 years old.. do you feel sorry for those who will use it for 5 years?
Many companies are still using Win98.. if it does what you need, why spend cash "upgrading" to new problems?
Seems with Windows.. it runs more stable after being around a few years.. having itself run a few bugs out, and having each company release better drivers.
There's a reason why WinVista is in beta right now.. because it's junk with tons of bugs. And even when it's initally released it will still have bugs.. maybe after 2-3years it will have worked itself out to a smooth platform.. which people can then use for another 5 years.

if it does what you need and want, then don't upgrade. however if you want to use latest software, then you do have to upgrade.
however, i did feel sorry for myself for using win2k in 2003. that was before i upgraded to xp.
and xp is a pretty solid platform, it has been tested and used for 4 years now.
btw, sorry that i didn't notice that silver bullet had winxp.

OK OK, I'll install it myself. :) Actually I was just hoping that this thread would get back to talking about IE7 instead of OS's.
Anyhoo, installed Vista B1. I don't see anything too exciting with IE7 yet. I like Firefox better because I'm used to it. IE7 will probably keep people from switching. I don't know about making Firefox people switch back though.

Does IE7 have mouse gestures or navigating via mouse buttons? In opera, if you hold the right mouse button and click the left, you go one page backwards, and if you hold the left and click the right, you go one page forward. Absolutely indispensible for me now; I don't know how anybody uses any other method.

For those of you contemplating on installing this I wouldn't bother. Although it's only beta, it's a thorough disappointment and I quickly uninstalled it after about 5 minutes. The GUI design is terrible and they've somehow managed to break their own GUI design rules. The placement of the tabs over the menu bar is ridiculous. Be content with Firefox, IE7 looks to be yet another disappointment from Redmond.

Given the reaction on this forum alone, I'm sure the tabs/menubar will be relocated possibly in the next Beta.
Either way, it's still IE. It's still from Microsoft and I still don't trust them.

I'm finding the interface really annoying, with the menu under the tabs, etc. Back to Firefox for me.
