First it depends on who your Cellular Provider is.

Second, if you use Outlook, then you already have this ability. You can create a rule in Outllook to notify you when a email arrives. But this would not be a good idea as email comes in constantly throught the day. Fortunately, Outllok allows you to specify which email deserves notification.

So, lets say you want SMS notification only when email arrives from your best friend.

Once the email arrives, all you have to do is forward a copy to

yourcellnumber@pcs.rogers.com

The problem is that Rogers has a new policy. If an SMS arrives from the internet, it will ask you if you want to view it. Then you are subject to a .15 cents charge.

Bell, Telus works the same way. Your cellular number at bellmobility.ca etc.

so does outlook just forwards it to yourcellnumber@pcs.rogers.com or does it actually send it as a sms

It does both. First it will tell you that you have an email and ask if you want to view it. Once you say yes. (.15 cents Charge) you should see the actual email.

You could instruct Outlook to just forward a generic message like.

You've Got Mail

I just noticed a jump of almost $10 in my rogers bill. They charged me 25 cents for every SMS message send to my cells.

This is the way you can unsubscribe to it.
1. Send a text message to 76766 with the word 'Unsubscribe'.

You will receive a text message about unsubscribing to SMS.

You should only be charged to read the message. Receiving is free. So when you say "yes" to read the message. You will be charged .15 cents because you sent a message (message being the word yes)

Any advice on getting Rogers to remove the charges?

Anyone gone through this process before?
