Not really the right place for this but has anyone got any recommendations on a cheap unit. Probably the minimum time period is all I need. Anyone seen any deals.

Posted in request a deal but several others have also and no response there.

I went there to change the battery this morning. $20 cash. Very happy with their service. I delt with Andy who is the prez there. He told me they are moving soon within the area.

my bad...saw "all amounts stated in USDS" and assumed that it was in the states.

If you don't want to corrupt data, you need to shut down properly. If you just pull power ( which will happen with the UPS when it runs out ) corruption will occur unless you are nearby and aware and are able to power your PC down.

Purchased a replacment battery from them in the past.

Note that currency for Canadians is in canadian dollars. :)

Had me scratching my head the first time I visited their website.
Ended up phoning them to verify that it was in canadian currency.

If having to choose between the two,
The APC BackUPS Pro 280VA.

I personally prefer the SmartUPS (http://www.upsforless.com/page1.html) series though.
Drawback is that costs start at $79.00.

How important is shutdown software and do most come with this.
I'd say that's one of the biggest features, if the power outage is longer than the battery's capacity to deal with it. It will automatically shut down your system when there is X percent of the battery left, ensuring that your system doesn't just turn off when the battery dies.
