I need to whip up a vector image, and have to somehow do it on my beat up backup: Pentium 2, 128 MB system with a 16 MB graphics card.

Needless to say, my copy of Adobe Illustrator CS2 isn't even installing, never mind run.

Can anyone suggest a really simple, free program for me to do some simple work? All I need are the very basics: create a document of preset size, rulers, guide lines, a pen tool to draw points/Bezier curves, the ability to add colour. Oh, I could probably use a Subdivision Divide, but I'll take what I can get. :)

Is Acrylic vector-based? I have the installer and can e-mail it to anyone who needs it if they don't feel like downloading it.

Though it has reasonable hardware requirements, Acrylic is still WAY more demanding than the P2 can handle.

Looks like I better seek out a temporary computer to borrow...

um, don't you still have to download email?

Have you tried GIMP? I am not sure if it is BitMap or Vector based as I don't use it.

not sure it'll do all you need, but Visio 5 should run on the PII and export to .eps and possibly .emf. The new version of Visio drops eps all together.

Also an older version of Autosketch would work, if you can find it...
