I flashed this bios and it failed to "verify", once i rebooted, i only got a black screen..
its the Asus A7V8X motherboard with a 32pin 4mb PLCC bios chip, i need to replace this.
I live in Vancouver, BC. Anyone know where i can buy a replacement and how to flash this replacement so it will work in my motherboard?
Ive found someone on eBay, but they're selling them for 20$ USD including shipping, but id rather by locally.
Thanks in advance

Check your manual to see if your motherboard supports the Crash Free BIOS. Most of the newer Asus boards support this feature.
It allows you to flash the BIOS even if it failed the first time.

i just got it back from RMA last week, i dont want to wait another 3 weeks for another board (its been RMA'd twice already)
I dont think it supports "Crash Free", even if it did, when i turn the computer on, all i get is a blank screen... so i cannot flash or fix anything that way.

Crash Free usually requires removing the jumper on the board so it boots up in flash mode.

Have you tried pressing ALT+F2 during POST ?
*NEVER* reboot if you run into any BIOS flashing problem ...... Next time, flash the original version back in.
BTW, did you flash it from DOS ?

i used Asus Update in Windows XP with the 1014 bios... it failed to verify
immediately i reflashed it with the original older bios, and that also failed to verify... so i know i was f*cked.
i just purchased a new bios chip from ebay.. 25$ cdn including shipping... oh well,

holding ALT + F2 did nothing, the tech support guy at Asus said i cant recover the bios myself and to contact my retailer, or RMA it i guess

i messed up my BIOS during a flash upgrade on my ASUS A7V, you can always try hotflashing if you have some spare older mobos around.
check out this webpage and check the FAQs:

I actually tried to hotflash, it is pretty darn risky and I didn't get the new BIOS chip to flash properly. It was a learning experience and I had some older PI boards so it was fun.
I ended up going to www.badflash.com and ordering a new one for $24.99 USD. Works well now.
