You must be from OT NET or the video is making its rounds. As I said once before, that kid is the problem, not the mother. I love how he condescends towards his mother thinking he's controlling the situation. A nice kick in the keester and belt lashings never hurt no one.

he's 16.. AND she's supposed to be the adult/guardian...she is hysterical and needs a serious vacation. she was totally verbally abusive and physically violent (smacked him) because he would not give her his "card/$50" (unless she asked "nice")
all she does is know how to scream and yell...and you guys blame the teenager...wow.
she justifies her "acting like this..." because she's had a "hard time"....statements like "i hate you...go to fvking hell...etc..."...totally crazy woman...
i'd call the police or child services....the woman is dangerous.

That kid's name is Waylan, as in Waylan Smithers from the Simpsons.
Bottom line is, that kid is a brat and completely out of line, irrespective to how verbally raucous the mother is.
Can you imagine if you're a parent and a child of yours that you've raised for the last 16 years won't do a chore unless you "asked" nicely? The camera suggests he's inciting her for the purpose of a cheap thrill, and documenting it for his friends (and the world) to enjoy.
I'll tell you one thing; if this kid were mine, he'd be on the streets, full stop.

pssh. that was my life age 12 to 18. Then I went to College lol
You can say that, but seriously. No one in sane mind can sit there and flip out like that. That woman needs therapy. Yea, its condescending of him to tell her to ask politely.
But it can also be viewed as a situation where the child has to parent the adult.
Going all the way through it, you see that the woman is jobless, and is broke. Her boyfriend (or something) talks to the kid politely.. and the kid ends up giving whats needed. She could've done that in the first place and this video would never exist.
Our parents generation (45-55) has serious mental issues.
That's a pretty sweet room for a woman who's too broke to even afford 50$.
..**** ya.
But again, if its anything like my parents, they live paycheque to paycheque and try to accumulate as much "wealth" by means of filling their life full of vacations, and nice things.. while their debt grows and grows...
Hell, one day they'll die.. they won't be responsible for the gaping pit where money once was..
If this kid has any brains, he'll see the issue, move out and make a name for himself, ending the cycle of poor life strategy. But chances are he'll become a statistic.

Yeah that kid seems like a total smart***. We don't know what happened 10 minutes ago before that tape started so how can we assume she just all of a sudden went ballistic.
But I think the kid works so that's how he can afford things thing..? She tells him he's grounded for 2 weeks and doesn't want him to go outside even if it's to go to work. If she's that broke then he should be paying rent.
Also... It sounds like when she goes in to slap him in the middle of the clip, he hits her and she says screams "Don't you ****ing hit me, don't you know I'm pregnant?" That poor woman's gonna have an aneurysm in a few years if she doesn't calm down and take herself out of that situation.

wow i just finished this.... the kid is a fcuking punk, the room wasnt his mom's room, its HIS, the camcorder was on his bed, an he had a blanket over him, u can see it when he flips the blanket off in the reflection of the screen near the end. So basically this is what is happening: the kid is spoiled with whatever he wanted, wont help around the house, and being a smartass... nice "crazy" mom, i say flip the kid out like any asian parents would

What else do you expect from a spoiled kid. It's the culmination of years of parental neglect. Had that kid been raised in a well rounded family, no way in burning hell would he have that attitude.
It's not clear what was going on, but in the beginning it sounded like the mother was pleading for keys to the cars, suggesting she needs to borrow the son's car. We later hear money talked about. Regardless if the house is paid for by the ex-husband or whom ever, the mother does sound as though she is the bread winner as hinted by her threat of not paying the kid's bills.
After hearing this little mess, how anyone can side with the kid is beyond me.
Crazy mom needs prozac and the lazy, ungrateful son needs to greet the real world earlier than expected.

I'll tell you one thing; if this kid were mine, he'd be on the streets, full stop.Looks like another spoiled rotten 16 yr old, the mother has been driven out of her mind. This is definately a control issue, looks like he is searching for the point that gets him tossed.
My nephew is 18 (just) and 1 week before his 18th, he leaves a note to mom, I'm gone; can't take it anymore, house rules. (he wants for nothing, colour TV, computer, cell phone, the usual goodies have been lavished on this only child) He's doing zip in high school, and he applies for student welfare..(you can do that when you're 18) he moved when mom was at work taking most of his goodies. His parents are blow away...
Some tough love is in order.

regardless if what the son is saying, nobody deserves to be treated that way. For those saying he is smart mouthed, does anyone here remember being 16? do you recall how smart mouthed you probrably were as well? It doesn't matter if hes spoiled if he is whos fault is it? The parent. She clearly has problems.
EDIT and that real world stuff is BS, even if it is the "real" world the guy is still a kid. Its not right to treat anybody like that.

May be you had a lot of liberties at 16, but in most Asian families, and certainly in mine, you don't talk back to the parents. It's not a generational or cultural gap, either; it's a matter of respect for your elders.
The new wave of apathetic parents presents a real predicament for society. Kids need discipline, and as I said, a little belt lashing never hurt no one.
Lastly, if you think calling your mom a b*tch is acceptable behavior, then you haven't a leg to stand on in this argument.

As much as I understand your cultural values from where you come from and how children are raised, this video is clearly from Western Cultural influence, and unfortunately how the parent reacted is deemed completely unacceptable by todays child service standards.
HOWEVER, although I do feel that the mother needs some serious therapy on how to deal with children, I feel the child probably does too...in other words, the family is broken....lots of problems, as was said, who knows what happened before to provoke this...
No matter what you say though about how children should be disciplined, I would never agree with you that this mother was correct. She was being very very childish. Its what's called a temper tantrum...usually what parents are there to prevent....not the ones throwing it!

This lady was wacko. You don't just yell like that the first time, she is an experienced pro. She started thrashing about violently through his things. What kind of model parent is she? She is an idiot, and I can guarantee she doesn't have a job where she has to deal with people.
As far as the son goes (Gaylen), he may have had a lot of nice things, but so did I when I was 16. My parents paid for none of it. I had a computer, TV, stereo, video games, clothes. I bought my own car. So maybe he paid for it, not her.
I worked around the house, which it doesn't seem this kid does, but I didn't have a drama queen riding my ass.
Whatever this kid is, his parent/guardian made him that way. Sounds like she did the "have a kid in your early years and ignore him until he is a teenager and I don't like what I have raised" thing.
She should have the kid taken away from her. She yells so much you can almost hear him saying "since you've already flipped out, what are you going to do for an encore?"

afaik, there are only a handful of 'facts':
--she does work, as she clearly states, "i came home from a f---in shift"
--the father is not really in the picture, there's a stepfather
--the son works as well
that's about it. everything else is open to conjecture.
we don't know what happened in the previous 15 mins., in which she says she asked nicely 'the first time'. we don't know what happened in the days, weeks, years before that. we don't know what happened immediately afterwards. maybe she calmed down, maybe she apologised. we don't know. this tape is obviously biased by the person recording it.
what we do see is a lot of disrespect from both the mother and son. maybe that is the nature of their relationship (as sad as that is). again, conjecture. it appears that everyone involved is quite comfortable swearing at each other, so i don't see why one is more at fault than the other.
we don't know that he paid for those items from his job. they may have been gifts from his biological father (a common occurance in broken homes) to buy happiness. for all we know, his money comes from dealing drugs at his high school, and the job is a cover for his real money-making ventures. . .
we just don't know.

Are you f*cking kidding me? Granted the kid shouldn't have been filming his mom, but SHE'S OUT OF HER MIND. You NEVER say that type of sh*t to your kids!
A) Don't ask to borrow money off your kid. That's just wrong.
B) Why don't you ask nicely? Son, can I borrow 50 bucks?
C) If they say no, their entitled to because its THEIR MONEY. You do not go off on a rant like that and verbally abuse that kid. I would have called the cops and had her arrested for child abuse.
Oh, but right, its the kids fault, I forgot.

that's just my opinion but boy that is a subtle bait style (I esp. like the "...a little belt lashing never hurt no one") which is getting old now...don't you have better things with your life than to practice deception like this?
