Hey guys,

I have an interview coming up with FS tomorrow and I was wondering what kind of money you guys make? I understand there are commission and non-commision people. How does the commission structure work and how much do the non-commission people make?

A friend just quit FS because he said they were getting rid of paying commission.

Apparently they're going to a 2-tiered system; most people are losing commissions and going to the Best Buy way (paid per hour, and therefore ignore customers), and so-called "product experts" who keep their commission based pay.

Now instead of being harassed all the time by people who don't know jack, you'll only be harassed by some of the staff! Hooray, I think.

Not sure about other departments, from what I heard (friends working in FS - computer dept), only senior sales (called product experts or something like that) can sale big ticket items like laptop/PC, which mean only they can sell extended warranties. You make most $$$ on extended warranty.

If I ever buy anything expensive at FS I'm going to test that senior sales thing. See if I can score a big sale with a "non-product expert".

I don't care one way or another, when I go into Best Buy or Futureshop, I know what I want to buy and go directly to the cash register.

I know exactly what I want to buy, but will give the sale to whoever doesn't bother me the most. Might as well give someone a few extra $.

Usually they won't get commission on items you can pick up on your own (ie network cables, mice, keyboards etc). However when it comes to a laptop/computer, ESPECIALLY the warranties, they can get commission. The CSR at the cash will also only get commission (sp btw?) if they can persuade you to buy a warranty at the front, otherwise they get paid base.
