if u want the traditional styles, (ie for old guys) go to Ingledews. If you want more modern (ie younger dudes) go to Browns.
Holt Renfrew has some good styles too.

Moores isn't too bad either; bought a nice pair a few years ago that are due to be replaced, for $75.
Mind you, I was walking around Montreal in the fall while waiting for my train wearing them, and by the time I got home I was covered in blisters. So depends on how much you'll wear them ;)

Judging by your posts (you went to staples in scarborough)...I'd say go to Transit, Shoe Company, the Aldo store (not sure if in scarb.). :) :)

LMAO Transit? I think he's looking for quality shoes, judging from his price range.

Again, wanted commenting on something he knows nothing about. Aldo you might be able to find something half decent in the $100 range, but definetly nothing over $120ish.

Some comfort shoes have their own stores now. Ecco & Rockport.
If you're willing to spend up to $300, I'd suggest Harry Rosen who are also having their sale right now (Prada, Allen Edmonds, Zegna, Ecco).
After buying Ecco's I would NEVER buy shoes from Aldo, Pegado, Calderone. The shoes there look decent but the quality if crap and they don't last more than a year. Decent shoes (depending on how you care for them) should last years.
You should also consider rotating your shoes. I usually wear at least two different shoes / week for work. I have a couple black dress shoes and a couple brown shoes (various shades).

i have a pair of florsheims (black brogues) that are older than some posters here, and still fit and feel great. that is the benefit of decent construction. i highly recommend them, especially if you need something more formal.
i once walked into cole haan with the intention of spending $300 on a pair of opera shoes and got snubbed because of the way i was dressed--they lost out on an easy sale because of ignorance.
if you can wear something a bit more casual and not as stylish, you can hardly get more comfortable than a basic pair of black 3-hole gibsons by doc martens (after you break them in of course--they are pretty stiff at the beginning). i have three pairs of docs that i rotate at work, since i can get away with a more casual look. i have a pair of burgundy rub-off brogues that are my favorites. and did i mention that they are practically bulletproof?

has Aldo slipped over the years? my current main pair of work shoes (dress/casual) are almost 6 years old; i bought them from Aldo right before the millenium for $120 during boxing day. they're "made in italy". sounds like Aldo went the "Made in (insert 3rd world country)" route the same way as Gap et al...

Thanks for the replies. I am based in Toronto.
I will be checking out Brown's this week. Aldo was decent, but looking for a bit better quality than that. Kenneth Cole had some nice shoes for about $200. I might end up getting those.
Hoping to look for some clearence or end of season stock on these top quality shoes, let me know if anyone knows of any good sales.
Winners has some shoes for cheap, but just not the quality I am looking for.

I don't like Kenneth Cole very much. I own a pair and they're not very comfortable. Very good to look at but not as comfortable as my Ecco's or my Boss shoes.
Seriously .. I'd check out the Harry Rosen on Bloor Street. High end stuff at clearance pricing.

I don't know if they have a Marler shoe store out there, but if they do, try out their lamb skin dress shoes. They are phenomenal!

If you're looking for a good place to compare mid-level price ranged shoes just go to queen st. and walk in and out of stores. I picked up a nice pair of Steve Madden shoes for 140 dollars last week.
One store I can recommend beyond all others though is John Fluevog, near University. You can get a pair of dress shoes that are well constructed and made in Vancouver for between 200 and 300 dollars. This is one of the most fashionable shoe stores right now, if you want to be on the edge like that.

I think you said it correctly ... "if you want to be on the edge like that. It sounds as if FP1 is looking for corporate / regular shoes given that he liked Kenneth Cole & was considering checking out Brown's.
Steve Maddens are ok .. but they're on the funkier side ... and they don't have much arch support .. at least not the two pairs I have.
Fluevogs for $300? Wow ... that's $$!!
