This is another way of saying something like "life is an adventure". Imagine coming to a fork in a road: one path leads to the east and beyond your vision, and one path leads to the west beyond your sight. Regardless of the path you choose, you will begin "a new fun experience". What makes the choice "fun", supposedly, is that you can't see very far in either direction. Some find this fun; others may find stumbling down an unknown path to be worrisome; still others believe you're screwed no matter what.
And yeah, the expression is a cliché.
