I just shipped something that someone has bought from me after recieving money though western union as a cheque. Now I know its quite possible for the seller to scam by simply not sending the item but I was wondering if as the seller it is possible for the cheque to bounce and have me get screwed.

yes - if the WU money order was bought fraudulently through a credit card then the CC company will take the funds back from WU and WU takes them back from you. It requires something like 21 _business_ days for the WU money order to clear - any time up to then it can be revoked.
There's also a number of fake cheques and money orders be passed right now that have affected a number of RFDers.

They may put a hold on the funds until check "clears" if they are suspicious about the cheque.
You may have a problem cashing it there if you dun have an account there cause how are they gonna get their money back if WU cheque was stolen?
Course I am just guessing not having worked in a bank.

if it says CIBC in the corner, chances are, CIBC issued it and has a way of identifying/tracking whether the cheque is real or not. I suggest you try cashing it at CIBC. you'll probably need to bring 2pcs of ID and they'll probably need a couple minutes to verify the cheque. If everything checks out, you've got money in hand.
I think.

Well if CIBC wants my bank information i'm just gonna deposit the check instead at the machine because at least they wont charge me then. Because as far as I know they will charge you a fee to cash it at the counter. Why pay them to do it when the machine can. The only reason I want to is get cash on hand so i'm safe from whatever scam some guy might have been trying to pull.

If you wanted to be safe, you should have waited till the cheque clears. Now it's a waiting game.
