Nice deal on a modular 400 PSU for $29.99 at Tiger Direct.
Unfortunately it involves a $40 MIR ( $69.99 - $40 MIR) ...

They also have a cheap Chaintech V3 video card for $27.99 ($47.99 - $20 MIR)...

This is supposed to be a good PSU. Hot deal if you don't mind the MIR.

AR price is hot, but it is $40 worth of rebate... Altho I have received the rebate from the 120GB Maxtor, I am still not confident with TD's rebate tho.
400W should be good enough for most people if the don't have the extra fans/lights in the case. I wonder if it will be enough for the high end P4s with a few drives...

I'd heard bad things about these power supplies. I thought they were unsafe or something? I'll check sources and get back to you guys.

seems worth a try. But is it easy to return it if it does work well?
I also find some cheap 19" LCD there, worth or not?
BTW, is their price in USD or CAD?

Just found an interesting ting when browsing tigerdirect.com. the shipping cost seems pretty lower than that of .ca
a 19" LCD cost only $4 for shipping from US but $25 from Canada?

This is a quote from a thread at Overclockers Forum (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=398391&highlight=X-connect+Ultra). The post is by Larva (A real ****ing know it all, but he really does know his stuff).
I have examined the guts of the X-connect 500, it is the same supply as the Aspire 500. And while not totally laughable junk, I can tell you that 12V transformers used are not capable of supporting the 34A 12V output claimed, and when a manufacturer has demonstrated a lack of integrity by making obviously inflated claims, it's hard to know exactly where the screw stops turning. The voltage droop in the 12V line with increasing load betrays a level of output far below 34A. I also suspect that this unit can make nowhere near 500W total output.
For the money I still think it's a decent PSU for certain applications. Certainly better than the generic PSU's priced the same. Any low powered system will do fine with this. For overclockers or newer high powered systems I would look elseware.

I have this psu, overclocked my 2500+ barton to 3200+ with vcore 1.675. Also using samsung rams. I'd say this is a pretty good psu for its price. I dont' know about the 500watt though. Maybe different from the 400watt.

What other components do you have in the system:
Video Card
HDD
Optical Drive
I want to see if it is able to keep up with all the demands!

I think Ultra is somehow related to Tiger, anyone agree? If they are, the Ultra=***** products. The design and all looks good tho, so does the price, I like it how esp. the cables are connected to the PSU instead where most PSUs the cables just run outta the PSU.

DO NOT buy "Ultra" PSUs!
You're better off using the $20 and $10 bills as toilet paper.

I am using their Ultra 500W PSU (no LEDs) I bought from them over 1 year ago.
I have these components in the tower:
1 x 100GB WD 7200rpm
1 x 160GB WD 7200rpm
1 x 12.7GB Quantum 5400rpm
1 x ASUS 52x CDRW
1 x BenQ 1620 DVDRW
1 x FDD
4 x 80mm case/hdd fan (1 with LED)
PSU itself has 2 fans
P3-933 CPU o/c to 1050 @ stock voltage
2 x 256MB Infinion PC-133 ram
GF3 Ti200 AGP v-card w/ stock fan
1 USB used for mouse, 1 USB used for ATI remote
TV wonder pro TV tuner
PCI - ATA controller (160GB is plugged on this card)
SB Live value
10/100 ethernet
So far I did not see any sign of 'fatique' from the PSU although I have so many components plugged in. Overall I am happy with the perfomance so far. I got this PSU with the Chieftec glossy tower w/ windows + side fan for $140 tax in last year. Not bad for the price.

In a recent shootout from MAximum PC the antec neopower 480 was voted #1.Enermax did not send in a unit for review.
