I never dealt with Factory Direct MIR myself... But I know a person who has bought items there and got all the MIRs... So I guess it is not that bad. Actually faster than some manufacturer's MIR...

Anyone find any reviews for this player? I have another iriver (the long one) and plays great, but you always have to careful with stuff from factory direct...

Actually since it's brand new I wouldn't worry too much. Here's the specs from the website:

seems like an okay deal. Not sure if Factory Direct is reliable though. :?:

$99 for a 512mb player is definitely a good deal. iRiver makes pretty high quality stuff. The player looks nice too. I'd definitely go for this if I didn't have one already.

Does anyone know how long these internal lith-ion batteries will last?
I'm wondering if i should go with one that needs a AAA or AA battery and just use the NiMh rechargable ones.

I would hate to have this product die within one year, probably would need to buy a new player as you cant replace the battery.

Any thoughts?

It's IRIVER + LTPS Color Screen + 40 Hrs Battery + bmp, txt + OGG, MP3, WMA + PlayList + Lyric + Programmable FM recording + Voice Recording + Line-In Recording up to 320 Kbps + Firmware support + USB 2.0 + all the accessories ...

I also read somewhere that it comes with MX400 earbud and has optical line-in ...

:-0 Aren't you guys asking too much for $100 (or $140) ?

I picked up the 512 and I really like it. It has an incredible feature set. Here are a few of my faves.

-Scheduled FM recording. If it's off the scheduler will power the unit on and tune to the proper stations to record your shows, then shut down.

-Line in recording. With.. wait for it.. up to 320kbsec quality.

-The screen is really nice too

This thing is rammed with features, I could see someone who's not a tech nut being overwhelmed in the menus.

Still debating if i want to get one... I want to find out how long the integrated battery will last, 1-2 years, before i have to throw it out.

I might just pick one up that uses a AA or AAA and use rechargable Nimh batteries, that way the mp3 player can be used for a longer period.

As far as my experience goes....there rebates have been real good. I got 3 rebates on time. Ofcourse the rebate amount was on the lower side.

But I want to know what happens if and when your purchase turns out to be a lemon ?????????

I ordered a 256MB player and it looks and sounds great! It has a bit of a cheap, plasticy feel to it but I can't really compare since I don't own any other flash-based mp3 players. The color screen is nice and legible too.

To answer Me2's question, if the player goes bad during the warranty period you'll need to deal directly with Iriver.

Factory Direct's policy says you can replace it in 7 days...
otherwise, you have to deal with IRiver yourself.

when u buy it, you automatically get a 1 year warranty right..we have to deal with iRiver after 7 days?..i was looking at this too..and since its brand new, i might get it with the extended warranty..but iRiver is in the US..correct?...and is the battery even covered by the warranty?..i read alotta good reviews about this product..has line -in too..don't you think the 995 looks uglier than the 990..i donno why with the ugly shade of grey on that.. i couldn't out if they have an external memory slot..cuz look at the picture..looks like a memory stick..unless it's the opening for the inputs..probably..

and look at this from iRiver website

Limited Warranty Statement
Thank you for purchasing an iriver America product. All new iriver America products come with a one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the original date of purchase from an authorized agent. All iriver America products sold as "refurbished", "reconditioned", or "factory renewed" are covered by a 90 day limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the original date of purchase from an authorized agent.

so what's up with the 7 day crap at factory direct?

Accessories outside of the player console, such as but not limited to remote control, batteries, earphones, and AC adapter will only carry a 90-day warranty from the original date of purchase.

so how the hell do we replace the batteries?

I'm contemplating on what to get... one of these iRivers, or the new Sony tampon - looking ones..

iRiver has arm band... and pretty much 1/2 the price of the Sony... but I heard many people returing and exchanging iRiver lemons...

I imagine that's FD's own exchange policy if the unit is a dud out of the box.

As for the battery that's the problem for alot of these devices coming out. The Source does offer a battery rebuilding service which others have said works well.
