I've flown over twenty airlines, Air Canada is at the absolute bottom, below Beaman Bangledish and Indonesian Airlines.

I believe they like to be called flight attendants now...

And the food isn't that bad, i kinda like airplane food, everyting all neat and tidy with their own little compartments.

They are... unorganized,rude,arrogant....

But they have nice planes and will get you safely to your destination so I'd say below average.

Quit whinning about Air Canada.

Canada is a big place and the population is small. So it is tough for an airline to operate in Canada.

An Airbus can not fly from Toronto to Yellowknife, so they require a 747 (need fuel). How many people do you think flys to Yellowknife on a given day? So they loose money on these flights. The fuel costs more than what they receive in ticket sales.

So I don't blame them for cutting costs.

It is not like the States, when people fly everywhere. With 300 Million people. It is easy to fill a plane and charge cheaper rates and offer more perks.

Would you rather Air Canada not exist? Who would fly to those remote destinations? Fed-Ex?

BTW. I do not work for Air Canada or affiliated with them in any way.

It's not that don't offer a great variety of flight options!
And yes I would hate to see them not exist!
I just wish they would get off there "high horse" and learn how to treat people with a bit of respect and class. That's what makes them a below Average Airline, and miles behind Westjet and Canjet in customer satisfaction.

Thier attitude just sucks period!!

I've been flying with AC for over 10 years, haven't had many problems except for some flights with late luggage (of which half of the incidents can be blamed on the new YYZ T1/GTAA). I still prefer them over Westjet.

I prefer Westjet. A younger, hipper flight crew and all around seem more in tune to the flying public.

I would rather see a 22 year old flight attendant than a 60 year old grannie with sagging boobs serving me tea.

Those of you who constantly bash AC for being so terrible, then why was it rated #1 in North America in a recent airline passenger survey? I don't know what people expect when they go to the airport from the AC staff, but I've found them nothing but courteous and helpful. No matter how much people complain about fares, they are more affordable now than ever, and the people than complain about how there is now less food service are usually the same ones who want bargain basement fares.

Direct comparisons to European aren't valid, due to population differences and lower per seat infrastructure costs. Besides, european airlines generally have TERRIBLE seat pitch (believe me I'm tall and I know).

Comparisons to the US are better, but their passenger volumes are much higher so the low-margin carriers can eke out a profit. However, the low-cost US carriers have lower service standards and crappy seat pitch.

Then you have the asian carriers.... great service, lots of room. Low labour costs make that possible, and you'll notice that places without low labour costs (like Japan) have nice airlines that are really expensive.

Bottom line is that you get what you pay for. Considering our sparsely populated country, IMO Air Canada is a wonderful airline, and that's why they get all of my business.

yeah, that's right. I would fly AC if their prices were the best, and have done so in the past. I just had to suck it up with their service.

Age or looks of the flight crew means very little. Id o like a drink and snack though.. I prefer Westjet as they have better prices for the flights I take in most cases. I've done aircanada flights a few hundred times and have no complaints with them.. If aircanada has a lower fare then westjet, id go aircanada. If westjet has a lower fare i'd go westjet. If I wanted to go somewhere westjet didnt go, i'd go aircanada.

Dude you are so full of it.

I have actually flown both Biman and Garuda and Merpati (the two Indonesian Airlines) and Air Canada is like flying in a private jet compared to those three pieces of sh@t.

In fact Air Canada , while having declined significantly over the last few years still compares very favorably to most of the major US carriers.

Your top line European and Asian airlines still make AC look like a Greyhound bus, but there is a world of difference between AC and the third world airlines you mentioned

It may be silly but the preference is real. According to a market survey (http://www.synovate.com/en/news/press_details.php?id=56) released last year, 29% of American men would rate having attractive cabin crews as a more important factor than good food or movies when it came to choosing an airline.

westjet sucks so much...they get the worst schedule since they get air canada leftovers, have less stuff included in your fare than AC. and is consistantly MORE EXPENSIVE.. you PAY MORE but get LESS

but did they ask if in an emergency in the air they rather have a 22yr old attendent with 1yr experience or a 40 smth with 20years of experience ;)

i guess that also means 71% of american men (not total flyers) care about age of attendents... so lets break this down, assume a near 50/50 split of men/women travellers.... 29% of 50% is 14.5%.

so 14.5% of flyers care about attrative cabin crew

Market survey question in Detail magazine:

How do you like your stewardess?

a) young, attractive and single
b) an aging 50 years old grandmother of 2

Hmmm.
It's a hard one, but I think I will go with choice 'a'.

Actually any Airbus, the A319,A320,A321 (the small narrow body ones you know) could fly between Toronto and Yellowknife. Air Canada has retired all it's 747's and does not fly any between Toronto and Yellowknife, because Air Canada does not serve Yellowknife.

As well Air Canada is now a fully private company and is not forced to serve money losing routes anymore. That is why many communities have lost Air Canada's service.

ahhhh i was waiting for the noob comment.....now now, no need to get offended.

I certainly think the quality of the air canada experience is on a downward trend. I remember when they use to give out little care packages on long haul flights (little socks, toothbrush, etc) Having said this, my experiences with other american airlines have not been any different either. I fly to the US or within canada at least once a month, and i've notice that westjet prices are consistently more expensive. Given the choice, i always go with air canada.

air canada like all other airlines have been hit hard during past decade and 9/11 so they have had to cut back the perks or services they offered before.

but Air Canada is still a good airline with a relatively modern fleet, exlemparay saftey record and very good service within canada and internationl routes at competitive prices.

much better than any other canadian airline. Westjet is absolute garbage, more expensive than AC, worst schedule for flights, aged fleet and inexerienced cabin crew and absolutely no amenities whatsoever.

I think I read somewhere that Air Canada has to by law service many route that are not profitable. As a result, they ends up fighting an up hill battle in a highly competitive environment. While other airlines can drop route, AC does not have that option.

With that said, I have not experience any complaint that are out of the ordinary for air travel when I fly with AC. While the exprience cannot be compared with Cathay, it has IMHO been better that its other competitiors.
