Let's say, some store put up a sign.....

Store A: Offer 20% Discount to Chinese (list price $100)
Store B: Non Chinese is subject to 25% surcharge (list price $80)

Store C: Offer 20% discount to non Chinese (list price $100)
Store D: Chinese is subject for 25% surcharge (list price $80)

Which store will most likely get nailed by the politically correctness gang on RFD?

How about all four, because no store is offering discounts/surcharge that's not based on race?

i remember that amusement park in hong kong had a special offer a few years ago that infuriated. they let only people with "Cheung" as their last names enter for free. all the other people had to pay full price.

I think that's the harshest although, its the same as the discount: It's kinda like punishing you for not being Chinese :D

Store C and D are not realistic because it doesn't exist.
The closest you'l get to this type of "in your face" discrimination is in chinese restaurants where you have all the best deals written in Chinese and the not-so-great deals in the english menu so that people like me get f*cked over LOL

hehe...Then how about those contest where you have to answer questions correctly to enter? Isn't that against dummer people? Hum...that's the nature of a contest, I guess.

If companies wouldn't have to, they wouldnt set up the skill-testing question. The only reason that there is one is because of the legal implication of giving away something which is "free" or something like that. In short, companies are forced to use the skill-testing question to get around that problem of giving away free stuff. Just to give you an example, the live 8 concerts required a skill-testing question, it wasn't because they wanted to filter out the stupid people from going to see Celine Dion (although only stupid people would  ), it was because Ontario law forced them to

I'm not saying the reason those questions exist is to filter out dummer people, however, it can be complain as so.

to be precise, the "deal" is only available to those who can READ Chinese. I've seen ppl who are Chinese but can't read, so no cigar, and also those like majored in east asian studies, so lucky them... and there are also those who came with their Chinese friend once and found this great deal so they memorized the exact location (on the wall or in the menu) so the next time they come in, they just point... that works too!!! :D

And if not, how did you find out about the discounts and surcharges?

the only place where i think i can find this happening would be if u were a tourist shopping overseas....

if store A and B are in Asia, and if the non-chinese tried to pay with US or Canadian currency, they might charge a surcharge for the service fee of exchanging the bills later....

and if store C and D was in any other non-Asian country where a Chinese tried to pay with chinese/asian currency...they could get a duty-free price (the $80) but have to pay at 25% surcharge for using other currency

haha

no sale sign, just dish name (and price) in Chinese, except they usually stick those on the wall rather than handed to you as a hardcopy (with Eng translation)

If a store don't want to take your money, then they're idoits
the point of these "deals" are so they could get a higher volume but at a lower margin
the use of chinese signs at chinese malls are usually simply because the store managers don't have the ability to write an english sign, i'm sure that if you ask them about it, they'll try and tell you.
