He's arrogant, and I think he's nuts believing in Scientology, but I have to agree about Ritlin and largely about psychology. He shouldn't act like he's some sort of "expert" however, he's a fricking actor.

I agree. I couldn't believe it, he was pretty much saying that him and his fellow Scientologists know everything about depression, ADD, etc, and that all the scientists and psychologists know squat about it. I like Tom Cruise but I'm getting pretty tired of him. I really think in a year or two he will have a complete breakdown (and have to go on prescription drugs).

Or be elected President and everyone will be required to be a Scientologist. I wonder if he's an "expert" on Ritlin and psychology by reading material provided by his "church"? But I do agree that Ritlin is not entirely a good thing, and that psychology is a joke, but not by reading Scientologist propaganda.

I think this whole "in love" thing with Katie Holmes is just a sham. He tries too hard to express it that it borderlines on bragging.

Why is Psychology a joke??

yeah he was speaking in such a condescending tone to Matt saying that he's knows what he's talking about and done his research. Does he have any education in psychology? Or is it just that he's read a few opinionated articles and backed up his 'research' from those?

I think Tom Cruise did some research in the late 80s about it but its definitely not based just on some opinionated articles.

Read that article.. they abducted Holmes and turned her into a Scientology freeeeak!. Thank god Scarlett Johansson ran for her life when Cruise tried to convert her.
And yes, I know it came from Fox news. Still interesting nonetheless.

Wow Cruise....He's just like all the hard-line religious people that aren't willing to accept someone elses beliefs. You may not agree with their beliefs or their use of anti-depressant drugs or whatever, but if it makes them happy or works for them... then thats fine and leave them alone.

No, they're equally nuts. But the followers of religions have various degrees of tolerance, and seems like a lot of Scientolgists have very little. They use the money made by people like Cruise and Travolta to sue those who challenge their system of beliefs that they'd like to impose on the rest of us. Not so much different than the Bush gang I guess.

oh ya... poor TOM, he can have any woman he wants... I don't think he was ever depressed in his life. I think he thinks too much of himself and needs to be more humble.
And I think the fact that this $200 million dollar War of the worlds will bomb at the box office, and his career will be on a downward spiral. If your a producer, you don't want to spend $100 million with your star actor acting all funny and not talking about the movie, why pay him $20 million or a % of the gross???
I don't believe in any religion that costs money.

Tom Cruise is totally whacked out of his mind. I used to like him as an actore, but he's just so messed up I can't even take him seriously as an actor anymore. Although War of the Worlds looks pretty cool, I wish they had another actor in it.
Edit: Oh man, almost done watching this. Tom Cruise isn't making any sense at all. Matt is being totally logical and all Tom is saying is "Matt.. Matt.. Matt.". Wow what a guy.

HA! That's totally absurd.
This must be coming from someone that is (currently) healthy? God forbid there is serious illness in One's future, or family... like Arthritis, Macular Degeneration, Cancer, or Heart Disease. Yes, these people are not meant to survive indeed.
Tom is off his rocker.
I wish Matt called Mr. Cruise on what he really DOES know about psychology, and wide spread drug use. I don't think he knows much. Just all the cliched words and high level quips off of Scientology pamphlets  Matt handled the situation very well, especially not losing his cool while Tom treated him like a child.
I'd love to see Tom and Brooke go head to head in a debate. She'd crush him!

Chatbox, why don't you go see some people who are suffering from post-partum depression, schizophrenia, and any type of the 'imaginary' brain chemical imbalances and talk them out of the problem. Yes, there maybe some abuse of the drugs, but I definately don't believe that psychological disorders are just in your head.

Actually I've always assumed he was gay and Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes now just agreed to be beards to advance their careers.
Back on topic tho - yeah - he has started to crack. Must be that L. Ron Hubbard thing - can't see anything that extreme being healthy imho

Cruise Quarrels with Lauer in Testy Interview
Friday, June 24, 2005
Associated Press
New York — Let the cynics talk. Tom Cruise is in love — and he just can't restrain himself.
"You know what? There's always cynics. There always has been. There always will be," said Cruise, who hasn't been shy about displaying his affection for Batman Begins actress Katie Holmes. "I have never worried ... about what other people think and what other people say."
Cruise, 42, and Holmes, 26, went public with their romance in April, smooching and posing for photographers in Rome. They recently became engaged.
Many have doubted the romance — the words "publicity stunt" have rained down on the couple like an alien invasion as Cruise has been busy promoting his new film, War of the Worlds, directed by Steven Spielberg, which opens on June 29.

"I have to tell you. It's just a great time in my life," Cruise said in an interview that aired Friday on NBC's Today show. "I'm really happy. And, you know, I'm engaged. I'm going to be married. I can't restrain myself. It's like you've got two little cords on your mouth and you can't stop smiling."
The 42-year-old actor, whose marriages to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman ended in divorce, declined to say what the 26-year-old Holmes has brought to his life that wasn't there in the past.
"I don't want to compare things," Cruise said. "It's that thing where you just — in life when it just happens. ... You meet someone. And it's — I can't even describe it."
When asked if he could be with someone at this stage in his life who doesn't have an interest in the Church of Scientology — Holmes has said she's embracing the religion — Cruise told interviewer Matt Lauer: "Scientology is something that you don't understand. It's like you could be a Christian and be a Scientologist.
"It is a religion. Because it's dealing with the spirit. You as a spiritual being. It gives you tools you can use to apply to your life."
When Lauer mentioned Cruise's earlier criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants, Cruise told the Today show co-host he didn't know what he was talking about.
"You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do," Cruise said.
The interview became more heated when Lauer, who said he knew people who had been helped by the attention-deficit disorder drug Ritalin, asked Cruise about the effects of the drug.
"Matt, Matt, you don't even — you're glib," Cruise responded. "You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, OK. That's what I've done."

i hate tom cruise but what he is saying about psychiatry is true. i took course in uni that covered history of psychiatry and how they do things and they are witch doctors. the studies are a joke. i can understand why tom would get agitated about it.
