Z-2300 is double the price of Z-3e. Is it worth it to get Z-2300 instead? As far as specs are concerned, Z-2300 has more juice, THX, and compatibility for consoles..

Here are specs:

Z-2300
Total RMS power: 200 watts RMS
Satellites: 80 watts RMS (2 x 40W)
Subwoofer: 120 watts RMS
Total peak power: 400 watts

Z-3e
Total RMS power: 40 watts RMS
Satellites: 17 watts RMS (8.5W x 2)
Subwoofer: 23 watts RMS
Total peak power: 80 watts

lol HT for computer?

anyways, is there even a reason for me to consider surround sound other than for movies?

of course! i can tell you it sounds way better than any computer speakers period.

i don't have surround either, only 2.0... don't see why i should split money on 5 speakers when i can buy 2 really good ones (i just listen to music mind you :cheesygri )

I've heard the z - 2300's and they literally shook the room - and the upstairs.

When Tom's hardware review says that the speakers " have enough power to keep your neighbours awake at night" - it speaks for itself.

THG review of pro's / cons below - but THG does suggest the z-2300' are the benchmark for 2.1 THX speakers

Given you're looking at the z 3, this link also included the z 3 as a comparison against the z 2200's which is the older version of the z 2300, but simiaalr in many respects to the z 2300's , as noted in the THG review.

yeah!!! i have the 2300 and it beats my 5300 pretty bad.!!!

I have both side by side and if I turn the volume to 50% on the 2300, I can't even hear the sound from the 5300 at all!!!!

i bought it for $110!!!!!

definitely 2300's.

One thing I've noticed is that speakers and monitor always seem to outlast the upgrades I make to my system. Best to get good ones the first time

The 2200 I previously had rattles the floor and walls in our old apartment I had to make sure the tenant below is gone before pumping up the volume :)

Good to know you're enjoying the 2300 Wayne!

So Z-2300 > Z-2200 right?

Yeah, it's probably best idea to go for the best if you're going to be using it for 5+ years..

it's a matter of opinion. I find my 2200's have better sq than the 2300's.

I'm not sure if it's because the 2200's have bigger woofer ( driver? ) than the 2300's that makes them sound better.
