Why,
When I bought my Seagate HD from them the guy even went to the Seagate web site and checked the warranty in front of me so that I would be comfortable.
Plus if they weren't chinese(let's say east indian or turkish or jamaican) would they still be *******s?
I am not from Far East so no 'preferential treatment' there. The employees were from Asian origin and Caucasian as well. The person who helped me was Asian and very polite and helpful.

The service isn't as bad in Richmond Hill ... there are "White" people that work at the one in R. Hill.
There's also cute female cashier's once in a while :D

I beleive that is how they make their money. Good service with high prices or bad service with low prices.

The new downtown location is gonna be hot I can say that for sure. They did some kickass renovation down there.
Bigger, better, and actual display space.
Lets hope they get some decent sales people.

I say their prices have gone up (for most products), compare to few years back when they first opened. Back then, most of their product prices were extremely competitive. Now with more computer stores around, you can easily locate better prices elsewhere (i.e. CanadaSYS).

Actually, their prices have not gone up, in fact they have gone down considerably compared to what they used to be. Fact is, with increased competition, CC has had to drop its prices to maintain a lead. As it is, other computer stores can offer similar or better prices (by reducing their own profit margin). This has caused CC to either drop prices further or allow themselves to be beat.
So, yes it may seem they prices are higher compared to competition, but in reality, profit margins are considerably down.

quit the biased generalization... every asian person i know tells me that they don't get good service from them as well. CC is notorious for having poor service to all, including asians. Nothing to do with anyone being white.

The closest CC to me is the one in Pacific mall and I absolutely hate that store. The sales associates are always so rude. The feeling I always get from them is "if I'm not buying anything then get out". Maybe its because the store isn't that big to begin with....but still, I could be a potential customer. The sales reps in the Waterloo store are alot nicer and actually treat me like a customer.

GRRRIncorrect. No they did not rip you off.
Not to defend CC, but I would say it's completely your own fault for not reading the return policy before making a purchase. The onus is always on you for informing yourself of any store's policy. First off, most, if not all local computer dealers have the 15% restocking fee - so that is actually normal. Secondly, everyone including CC has at least a 7 day guarantee against DOA's on all products. You have the choice of opting for a free exchange within that time period or a return with a 15% restock fee. Since you chose to return your item, and chose to accept the charge and settled with it at the time you were there, why are you crying about the restocking fee?
Next time, be smarter about it.

If you don't like CC then don't shop there, simple as that.
Bought a lot of items from them, no problems at all.

 agreed. I'm asian and I never get any service from them (They are usually rude to everyone, right when u look at something they ask if they can help you and follow you around like you're stealing. Every store in pmall is like that, especially station 28.). I just go in there to get what I need. It's definately not a store where someone who has very little knowledge of computers can "shop". If you want to do that, you might as well research it yourself on the web. I would recommend going to Best buy and wasting the sales rep's time to get info but they know nothing as well.
If you know what you need and understand their return policies, you shouldn't have any problem.

I've been to the CCs in Mississauga, Downtown, and Waterloo. Never had any problems with them. The people working there have been very nice (a couple times), to just plain average. Haven't had anyone that was really rude, maybe I've just been lucky.
The only place where I've had major problems like that is ICCT downtown. Definltely don't shop there anymore.

im azn and i get treated poorly too. but i have a theory that if you can speak fobby azn languages lol, like cantonese, then they would be more helpful. im a pretty white washed azn and anyone can tell that once i open my mouth, so maybe that has to do with it? not trying to be rude or anything, please dont take it that way. juss my PERSONAL observation

I used to shop a lot at CC PM branch but now I goto Fans PC which is right behind them, price match and the owner usually knock a few dollars off too if you ask nicely. But as usual, when you shop at these stores, you need to know what you're buying and understand their return policy.

I don't understand why many people b*tch about CC's 15% restocking fee when most of the other computer stores around also have that policy.
Btw, the policy is:
In 7 days, full refund on unopened item. 15% restocking fee for opened item.
30 days for exchange.

well. not to be racist or anything, because myself is a chinese canadian  but the service at many chinese businesses suck, let it be computer stores or restaurants. It has nothing to do with u being a white person, in fact, sometimes they treat white people better. That's why i try to give my business to those busineses that have good service, such as T & T supermarket and the GoodBuddy restaurant chain in Edmonton.

Agree, you can just return something and the reason is "I don't like it"....
do you know why the fxxk Asia and other countries got all the latest COOL Cellphones before we do? Do you know why the price for the digital high tech devices for such higher price??
think about it.
Return/exchange policy suck. if the product you purchased is defective, yeah go and exchange/return it.

I am quite fed up with the poor service at their College location. There are more salespeople than there are customers but it takes forever to get someone to help you and even longer to pay. It drives me mad when there is a line-up and half the staff are just sitting around chatting and ignoring customers. I will not even start with the attitude you get from some of them.
One day I walked down to PC Metro (few steps East on College) and although their selection is more limited, their prices are on par with CC's (actually, the first time I walked in there after buying a few things at CC I found that everything I just bought was cheaper there by $1??). Again not the best selection nor the most knowledgeable staff but they are corteous and polite and I've always walked out of there happy to have given them my business.
Shouldn't that be the very least you demand from any store you shop in?

I stick to the north Yonge location of CC now. It has better service, and is less crowded. One guy actually took me over to a laptop with net access and helped me pick out my new ram :-0

?? What do you want to know about computers?? There is something a CUSTOMER need to know that a sales is not good in everything about computers parts, some guy knows harddrive better, some knows more about MP3 players....
There is something I don't like is, Please Open up your eyes and look at those reviews online and figure out which one you *think* is good before you go and get it.
at least those sales person in CC is better than those stupid indian guy in FS. I wanted my fxxking Maxell DVD Minus R eight X, and he gave me a Maxell CD minus R and yell at me "this is Minus R and that's what you asking for me few times! It is instock here on the shelf and I am sure it is *MINUS* R" ....
That's call dumbass, don't think you are smarter than those ppl, you know much on a computer products doesn't mean that you are an expert. If you feel great after you play with those sales person, i suggest you to see a doctor. diu la ma.

Glad to see they're expanding. That store is always packed with people. I usually get most of my computer stuff there and never had a problem with them over many years. I'd vote Canada Computers as the best computer store in Toronto!

Why is everybody complaining about Canada Computers? Everybody knows they have bad service, its only a good place if you know exactly what you want so you walk in, grab it, pay, and leave. Employees never know anything. Same goes for FS, BB, Staples, Wal-Mart, and Cdn Tire.

I dunno, I was at the Miss. location a month or so ago when building my MEGA 651 and they were pretty helpful in picking a DVD-ROM drive even though it was like 10 mins to closing and they were packed.
I didn't like the Pacific Mall location when I lived in the hood (Scarberia :D) Definite disadvantage for a big dumb white guy like me to shop there ;)

Ya, I find most of those small to medium Asian owned computer stores have pretty bad customer service however I dont mind it that much as long as their prices are cheap since I already know what I want. Word from the wise avoid CompuSolutions Direct at 3145 Dundas St. West in Mississauga http://www.csdweb.net. The Asian guy in there is literally like "Buy now or leave". I could go on for hours about that place but all I will say is that I bought the components for my last system there and spent over $2000.00 in that shiat hole and was hussled. I have been waiting for that place to go out of business for like 2 years now. and the Indian Guys at Futureshop/BestBuy piss me off alot too. They hardly know what they are talking about and will lie or make up stuff about products to make a sale. I rather go to the Asian shops to grab what I want for cheap and go. I wish I could get a connection in Asia to send me all my computer stuff for cheap so I dont have to deal with all of this. >:(

I usually buy my stuff at the Mississauga location because it is less then 10min drive. Customer service is OK if you know what you want. If you speak Cantonese, you do get better customer service because my Cantonese suck and I can understand everything they say
I am asian, they don't treat me much better. I wouldn't mind working in a store like that but what is the pay like? $12/hr? How much is Futureshop/Bestbuy pay salespeople pay?
Yohin05
Jul 2nd, 2005, 01:31 PM
