Problem with Winrar compression

How come I keep on trying to compress 30 files into 1 rar file and I get these small rar files that don't work (the individual compressed files end up being really small). I checked my hard disk space and have 1.8 GB and the total size of the compressed files is like 500MB

try using "store" compression method and winrar to compress it.
Check if you can open the files before they are compressed, maybe the're already damaged.
