Are they nessecarily better than a Targus, Microsoft, Labtec one for say? For instance, a simple 2 button wirless optical mouse with no bells and whistles is $20 more for a logitech. Worth it? I do want a mouse that will last years without going out on me, meaning the scroll wheel getting loud or rough, etc. This is the mouse im looking at, but its still $10-20 more than a targus one.

Just go to FactoryDirect and pick up a OEM Logitech 2 button mouse for like 5 or 10 bucks. Done.

I think they are better.
You get what you pay for.
I have been using a LogiTech Scroll Wheel mouse (non-optical) for 7 years and it is still going strong, use it every day.
I have been using them since the C7 (Bus Mouse). Purchased it in 1987 for $181.
And you are complaining about a $20 mouse?

well i want wireless and optical ^ and its for laptop.
I figure why spend $50 on that logitech one when i can get this targus one with a charging cradle for $45, get staples to PM and works out to be $45. Now im guessing ones iwth chargers, use their own set of batteries? or do u have to buy rechargables? is the battery built in? if so, ill get it, saves me $ on batteries

Personally, the ergonomics are simply much better than similarly priced mice by MS or other manufacturers. I simply don't feel comfortable with anything else...

hehe I know what you mean.... but I had that problem before (well not really a problem, I just didn't like that they clicked) with my logitechs as well (two cordless opticals, and an mx700). I simply just popped them open to remove the clicker, and voila no more click (at all).
Using an mx1000 now, but I haven't touched the scroll wheel since the mechanism is a bit more complex and I need the clicking feedback to get accurate scrolls for precise weapon changes in games.

i cant wait for sale man lol, im using my touchpad now :(, for a night its ok, but no longer lol. im dying to go tomrw and get a mouse first thing in the morning.
I think the targus i posted above with charger cradle for $45 isnt bad price. reg $60, sure its not hot but still better than anything. I just have to find out how the battery system works on uit, if i dont ever have to change the batteries then its worth it! cause some of these mice drain in a month! and 2AAA batteries isnt exactly cheap.

The MX5XX series has got to be the best mice I've ever use, the shape, accuracy and everything about it is great. I wouldn't go back to those cheap generic mice ever.
I really wonder if I would of gotten them at the full price, for around 50 each.

I guess you are using a laptop.. but I know I had to sell off my new wireless keyboard+mouse because the mouse really didn't keep up for gaming. It drove me bonkers.
Considering I'm always right next to my pc when typing or using the mouse, I haven't quite figured out the point of a wireless keyboard or mouse. Though I did buy the combo before because it was some crazy hot deal.
DAMN YOU RFD!

That Logitech one you want to get is real good, the shape and the weight is different from the others. Feels more solid, uses 2 AA or AAA dont remember, you pop open the top of the mouse and pop them in. Real good mouse though.

I don't like wireless either. Simply because they use batteries. The only reason I see to go wireless is for MultiMedia PC. Otherwise, I will stick with the corded version.

I even have a Logitech Freedom 2.4Ghz Joystick which drives me nuts.. it sucks batteries too often for my liking and I hate that it takes that 1-2 seconds to connect before it works.
Usually when I'm playing a game like Battlefield1942, when I jump into an aircraft, it takes my joystick that 2 seconds to connect and I wind up not being able to control the plane until then.
Just a little annoyance.. but I'd love to sell this thing and get a corded Logitech Freedom Joystick.
Wireless is good for some things.. not others.

2AA - that would be real noticeably heavier than 2AAA or 1AA.

why is wireless annoying? i find corded mice annoying cuz you can feel the wire drag and pull. but no batteries which is good.
So this mouse that i want the targus, since it has a charger cradle does that mean i will never have to buy batteries for it, since it comes with rechargables? whats normally the shelf life of mouse rechargables?

Maybe I'm picky.. but I agree, I can't handle wireless mice.
A wireless keyboard I can deal with.. although I don't see a point to it.
The mice though, just aren't quite right.. I can't really say why, but it's just different.. like less accurate or something.

Yeah it's very likely many people can use them and not notice anything at all.
Guess it's just try and see.

As usual, you're clueless. This was $20 after PM and rebate, and is 10 times the mouse you're looking at. Great design, incredible build quality, extremely convenient, and doesn't interfere with my G network at all. The solid state scroll pad is pretty damn neat, too. Even fewer moving parts to gum up.
This mouse actually IS worth $40, unlike the others. It uses 2 AAAs, but can run on one, and shuts itself off when you close it up. Anyone here who bought one will tell you.

My cordless telephone is 2.4ghz, my joystick is 2.4ghz, my microwave is 2.4ghz, my old wireless keyboard+mouse was 2.4ghz.. and guess what, none of them interferred with my 2.4ghz Wifi network, nor did they interfere with each other.

I have a fancy logitech mouse, but only because I got it really cheap (thanks RFD! :D). However, to be honest, I don't think it's really worth it's full retail value. Frankly, I would never pay over $40 for ANY mouse.
I've used both cheap mice and higher end mice, but have not found a huge difference in performance or comfort. The only benefit of my logitech mouse is the extra buttons (e.g. on the side, etc.) which I can assign to common functions. However, other than that, it doesn't feel any better.
Ultimately I think that any generic mouse will work just fine. In the end, they all work just as well. Perhaps they may vary in build quality, but with a cheap $5-10 mouse, I can replace that with a new one several times and still pay less than the price of some mice.
The most important thing would be comfort. However, the only true way to become comfortable with a mouse is to just use it repeatedly, and then you'll eventually get used to its shape, feel, and weight.
