I'm just wondering if i listen to my sony ex71 earphone 1 hour a day how much damage will it do to my ears? My dad tells me i shouldn't use it at all. are there any references that would prove him wrong?

Related question, would listening to thing with strong bass damage my hearing? Even if it's not loud?

at moderate volumes it is fine...
to your ears, 80dB from a speaker is no different than 80dB from earbuds than 80dB from headphones...
heavy bass, again, if at a moderate volume is fine...

Headsets are not good for your hearing and you'll end up like me, hearing ringing in your ears non-stop till u die. Choose now because later is too late.

I'm on the phones with an earpiece on, with volume at 7-8, 8hrs a day M-F, then 5hrs on the weekends. Everyday nonstop. No ringing yet, but my hearing has definitely gone down hill noticeable. More so my eyesight.

I've wondered this too but I think as someone earlier pointed out, at low to moderate volumes it's fine as it would be the same as external noises. I only listen to my mp3 player at very quiet places so at really low volumes (like the lowest you can go).

Please avoid headset use when possible...any headsets
If you can, listen to music normally ie via speakers. Especially on the subway, you need to turn up the volume every high, and that is not good for your drums.
