This was an online contest they had. Daily entry. Freind showed it to me. Its not around anymore. After that I caught the contest bug. I enter everything now

I also give away just as many things at my website to my readers casue thats also fun, something like a thousand dollars worth fo hardware in the last 9 months.

I have won alot of prize picks, Tshirts, PC games, but here is the story of my biggest win so far:

I won a trip to the 1999 Peoples choice awards in LA. From now dead (or new owners)www.excite.com I flew First Class from YVR but because it was Sponsored by cbs and it's Sponsored airline was Continental we had to fly via Houston Texas. About 8 hours but in First Class. We stayed at the Beverly Hilton and the tixs for the show was going to be waiting for us. But no tixs at the hotel and we got there Sat night. The show was Sunday night. Our contact number was Monday-Friday. We got a cheque for 500us two. That was at the hotel but we could not cash it because we had out of state id. So I had to pay for everything on my credit card until I got back to Canada. We only had to pay the taxes on the hotel which was about 300us for 4 nights. So you can image the cost of the hotel room. On Monday morning we phoned the contact person and she said she was sorry we missed the show. She made some more calls like cbs head office in NY. And I guess someone forgot to courier the tixs over to the hotel. So we got a phone call at our hotel in about a hour from the contact person saying CBS was truely sorry and was going to fly us down again the next month for the grammy awards. Via Houston again and another 5 days at the Beverly Hilton (in a nicer room). CBS NY handle all the details for the second trip and someone from CBS met us at the hotel to give us our tixs for the grammys. My advice always read the rules and I always give my real ph # some contest only contact you by phone. I prob get 1 phone call every couple of months from a TM but I just asked to be removed from their list. I enter contests from well known companys. Not from a website I know nothing about. I like www.iwon.com owned by cbs and they give away 10000 every weekday. Easy to get your max 100 entries a day. And it is open to Canadians two. But I haven't won it yet.

In 2003 I won two Canrailpasses from Via Rail's student web site www.viacampus.com (it's not up right now), for up to 12 days of rail travel in Canada over a 30-day period. It took a little wrangling to actually get them and to book our trip (since we don't have rail service in NF), but my hubby and I flew to Toronto and took the train from Toronto to Vancouver, stopping in a couple of places to visit friends along the way. It was a great trip - highly recommend taking the train through the Rockies if you ever get the opportunity.

Other than that, I won a classical music sampler CD from the Globe and Mail's web site back in 1999.

I've won LOTS of stuff...but only through radio contests. My biggest win so far has to be the all-inclusive trip to Whistler for the Ski and Snowboard Festival last year. Also won 3 Nintendo gamecubes with 3 games and memory cards each, 3 Kokanee jackets, 3 cell phones....and some other stuff I can't remember with that prize. This year I've won a $1000 shopping spree, passes to every movie premier the Bear does for the year and a bunch of smaller things.

I use to reply to those Publisher's Clearing House contests all the time...the one with Ed McMahon. And one time, I actually WON something! I won a beautiful gold necklace :eek: It was beautifully packaged in a small ziplock bag :eek: and sent to me in a lovely envelope :eek: with more contest details. They thanked me for entering their contests and asked me to "enjoy my prize." Darn thing was so cheap looking. It felt like plastic with some super cheap gold-colour plating. I don't think I have that problem. Mine usually messes up with the birthday (month is filled into the Day box, while the Month box is unselected).

Also some other things, can't recall at the moment. What other settings should we change? I haven't updated to the latest versions though.

Oh, and are you using this for sites like the PC Financial Mastercard website? It doesn't seem to work properly for me (i get a pop up screen and the number/password filled in but it doesn't press login for me).

here's my random drinking story of the night..so I met Alex Rios and a posse of the blue jays tonight at a bar downtown not too far from Blue Jays way, he had a number of beautiful women with him, im not sure if he was partially drunk or not but he *claimed* to have recognized me.

So i wander in around 11pm with my buddies and order a drink before grabbing a table for some dining and the waiter comes around and says that guy over there thinks he knows you. I'm like hey man, I don't know anyone in this city, you must be confused, so he leaves.

After cleaning the house out of baby back ribs the waiter comes back with our beers and a table with a mini keg on it. I'm like hey sweet man, whose that for... he's like uhh that guy swears he knows you so it's on him. We didn't argue with free beer so we took it all in. I wanted to be nice so i walk over to the dude's private booth area with 1/2 naked women at this point and say thanks for the throw man.. until I realized its alex freaking rios from the blue jays. He told me he knows me and asked how my parents were, i was like they're fine and cool, they miss you man. he was like, yeah i remember them. at this point i thought i should just milk this until he stands up, asks about 6 or 7 of the half naked women to show me and my boys a night on the town...

damn that was fun.. what was icing on the cake was he pulled out 7 bills from his pocket and told me he'd hit me the rest back later. i had no freaking clue what he was talking about but i must have closely resembled someone he was tight with. so yeah, that's my story of the night

Thanks, not once have I ever neglected my family to enter contests. Maybe I spend a few extra minutes in a store to enter a contest via ballots, but thats it. Kinda of a hobby in a way.

For the Super 7 I have one set of numbers I pick all the time. I havent won on Super 7 for awhile now, I usually get $10 here and there.

As for the 6/49, ever since they swicthed to that new "bigger payout" system, I have won nothing on it. Used to get $5 - $10 here and there.

I rarely win in contests but in those games where you break open the cards and get 3 icons in a row, I won a lot from that.

Probably spend $200 in my lifetime and won the Grand Prize ($500) and the 3rd prize ($100). I also won enough $1, $5 and $20 but the first two prizes I still remember.

Won the Grand Prize because the lady working at the stand said that no one won the Grand Prize left and there were only about $100 of tickets left. Spent about $20, while other dudes spend at least $50 and I won the jackpot. :cheesygri

No tax, you dont get taxed on winnings, just the interest it makes.

paid in one lump some, was sweet cashing that cheque at the bank.

None left, that was almost 5 years ago now. Went to pay off all my debt (except mortgage) and helped pay for a moving van to a new province. Won it when we were in the middle of moving to Alberta.

The funny part was it was one of those 50 50 tickets. I was joking with the kids when they asked what the winning number is. I said its this one (before the draw) They asked what the number was, I said they would say it outloud.

I use a program called Sweeps to keep trakc of my contests. You just out in how often you are supposed to enter, and it comes up automatically when you can enter next. Been using it for years now.

I go to Contest canada as well. I am also a member of another site that emaisl me new contests daily. Its all canadian too

Yes they are legit. In fact the womans name on alot of the forms is the same one that signed my cheque.

At first I was like, WOW, this guy wins a LOT!, but then I realized that almost a third of the prizes were minor Super 7 and 6/49 winnings (normally $10 and under and free tickets), which, if anyone here wants to spend the money, can win as many times as you have. I really wouldn't consider Super 7 or any lottery a prize unless it's over $100. You had one decent win of $50.

i think most people assume that contest enters enter contests multiple times and spend hours at a time entering and maybe even use things like roboform. probably 90% of my wins are contest a person can only win once, also i do not use things to short cut my entering. no i do not say using short cuts is ala cheating its just not how i do my playing/entering. most my wins are passes and cds so basicallly they are kinda small wins but sometimes i top that with a dvd box set, or worthwhile event tickets/gift certificates. since 98 i have won 3 different trips in fact the second one was worth more then $2400 in value yes i know thats not alot but it was through city tv and speakers corner and apparently including myself only 4 people entered it. finally i am just saying that there are different contest enterers and winners and if you feel your wins do not measure up to thers standards why do u enter. i do it for fun and if i win and win something i can use or pass on thats a bonus. generally when i enter is it something i wil enjoy/use or i know someone i can pass it onto if i know its something they will can enjoy/use. i find it funny when i hear of a person who enters just for the case of entering and nothing to do with the prizes.

i think most people assume that contest enters enter contests multiple times and spend hours at a time entering and maybe even use things like roboform. probably 90% of my wins are contest a person can only win once, also i do not use things to short cut my entering. no i do not say using short cuts is ala cheating its just not how i do my playing/entering. most my wins are passes and Cd's so basically they are kinda small wins but sometimes i top that with a DVD box set, or worthwhile event tickets/gift certificates. since 98 i have won 3 different trips in fact the second one was worth more then $2400 in value yes i know thats not alot but it was through city TV and speakers corner and apparently including myself only 4 people entered it. finally i am just saying that there are different contest enterer's and winners and if you feel your wins do not measure up to their standards why do u enter. i do it for fun and if i win and win something i can use or pass on thats a bonus. generally when i enter is it something i will enjoy/use or i know someone i can pass it onto if i know its something they will can enjoy/use. i find it funny when i hear of a person who enters just for the case of entering and nothing to do with the prizes.

When i started I used to enter for everything, even if I couldn't use it. Now I just enter for things I want or need. No sense entering for a years free supply of dog food if I don't have a dog, etc.

if I am short on time, I enter the big win ones. Cash, trip and cars. Those are my for sure every days.

Last one I won was 2002, a Toshiba 34" widescreen. That one will become my secondary TV as it was my movie TV. Still an awesome TV, best you could get back then.

That much extra, then i would agree with you. We wona trip to Whister 2 years ago for 4. We have 5 in the family and the contest people were very accomodating. Just had to pay extra for my youngest son for his flight, and they knocked that price down alot to since we was only 4.

I agree sometimes contest peeps can be real good. a few years ago when I won my trip to Vegas a) my hotel and airfare for myself and guest was suppose to be a max of $2000 but the cost was more yet they paid the extra, b) it was suppose be be 2 nites and 3 days but i got 4 nites and almost 4 days and c) onb top of the top prize they gave me a runner up prize as well cause one of the runner ups was underage.

:arrowu: if it were totally free, sure! but i have to pay the taxes for 2 = $420 + $50 departure fee = $470 then on top of that any site seeing or taxi rental, maybe a lunch or two in town and you can see how it would add up for a 3* resort with a crappy beach (see below, check out photo of beach)

I'm sure I'll be called picky but when I see a nice resort for Varadero on the winning page and told over the phone Varadero, this seems like a let down. Not to mention I've been told by numerous people do not go less than 4 or 5star when staying in Cuba. (yes that's me on the link) They do say they choose the resort but it seems very misleading to me showing a nice one and awarding a lesser one. Doesn't seem like a smart thing to do IMO, do you think I'll ever book a trip through them? Or my family & friends who think this kinda crappy on their part? Even after I offered to pay the diff to upgrade?

true enough, but I was told Varadero over the phone (my word against theirs) & a resort in Varadero is pictured. I agree it's there in writing but it seems misleading to show one and award another. I wouldn't be pissed except I was told Varadero when they called to say I had won. But yes, that clause is there and there's nothing I can do about it.

Some contest organizers will go well beyond to keep the reputation.

When I won a $13,000 Lennox heating/cooling unit from HGTV the end of may last year, my hubby and I were on cloud 9 because our current wood furnace was failing and my hubby is disabled and we had a heck of a time piling wood each year, not to mention the soot backup in our our house was staining everything.
In the rules of the contest it stated we already had to have ductwork for central air in our house, which we didnt and technically I didnt qualify but the contest organizers decided to send a local lennox dealer in the do an assessment anyways. The dealer that they had originally hired to come in tried to rip them off. We knew we might possible have to pay for the new ductwork which we were prepared to do but the dealer jacked up the price to $16,000 and that didnt even include a cooling unit, and would only install an oil furnace, when we were suppose to get the option or propane, oil or electric. Half the supplies were not included in that price either. They gave the run around to us and the contest organizers so bad that the contest people got fed up and told them to forget it. The president of Lennox, I was told later by the new dealer, personally called him who lived an hours drive away from us and asked him to install everything that was needed. this was in september and by this time we were told we would have the unit. This dealer was fantastic.
Not only did they install new ductwork and added a backup propane furnace, We got a heatpump which was not part of the prize at all. So all said and done we ended up with a prize that we were later told was well over $16,000.
The only thing we ended up paying for ourselves was to install the propane tank, rental and to fill it. HGTV, lennox and the sponsors went well beyond to help us and in return, I brag up the Lennox, and the dealer.:)

Between my hubby and I weve won a total of $26,000 in cash/prizes. we chose not to enter trip contests because were not able to travel at this time. In end of sept, or October my hubby recieved a letter stating he won the Bicks, 'Beef up your summer contest'. It was suppose to come with $2000 in GC for groceries, a $1299 stainless steel napolean BBQ and a $1299 stainless steal freezer. My hubby and I were super happy, although we did not need or have room for a freezer. What we were aiming for was a contest win for a fridge because our current one was leaking bad and was rusted. The contest organizer called and told us the freezer was not available but we had our choice between another deep freeze OR a stainless steel side by side fridge. :) guess what we chose? We ended up with a $2000 fridge. We were sooooo happy. I love winning prizes we need.

But the $6 a week varies, because if I win a ticket, then I dont pay $6 a week. Id only pay $4 if I won one free ticket, or $2 if I won 2 free tickets

Thanks it is my thread. Ive noticed the last year how people attack other people on here more and more. Things usre have changed since RFD first started. Seems now a days its more of a pissing contest than anything.

In my mind they are a win, same as going to a casino and winning I guess.

I already won a bunch of local contests. So for those people who say they never win , i recommend entering local contests, which have far more better odds, youll eventually win something !

But also not to be cliche but you cannot win if you do not enter. I won a trip to Vegas through a TV station whcih had 3 runer up prizes. Anyway including me one 4 people entered but 1 of the other 3 was underage so onto of the top prize I also got a runner up prize as well.

The odds of multiple wins are truly related to how much time is invested participating and the variables related to the each of the contests entered, that is simple math. Believing in luck, well, that is like faith, not quantifiable and therefore highly debatable.

The bigger picture is what is important to you in life and what makes you happy. No doubt winning once in a while sure sets off the natural opiates. Like anything else, it is only a problem if it consumes your life (not talking about anyone here, just psychology)

That said, it's nice to hear what other people have won, and not the usual "I never win anything", so keep them coming!

I use Roboform to enter. Only way I can enter that many

I only spend about half an hour a day on average, some days more, some days not at all. Summer time my entering isnt as much with vacation and summer time activities.

Telemarkters, next to none. I sunscribe to that service that you have to say your name, etc if your calling from an unknown number. It was included with my bundle.

Who care about junk mail, it goes straight to recycling at the post office. No biggie to me

Tips, not really. I just enter when I have time. Laptops help as you can watch something on tv at the same time, or at the coffee table. I dont spend much time everyday doing it
