OK.. The latest story from a Staples store is that Canada Computers is under investigation for selling of stolen merchandise. According to the manager I talked to on the weekend who refused my SD 1 gig price match, head office has informed Staples stores not to price match again Canada Computers or Tiger direct. If this is the case but there is no evidence then I think that Canada Computers could sue for slander/liable. I was going to call head office to confirm but I didn't get a chance today. I didn't argue with the manager because she said it was head office's request. So, if head office has the same story I would like to be able to challenge their facts if anyone knows the details behind whether or no Canada Computers is indeed under investigation.
Who would they be under "investigation" from. I am sure that if they were under investigation from the police that the police wouldn't be going around telling Staples about this... I am pretty sure it is BS and I am annoyed by the fake excuse since they have MUCH lower price. They didn't say anything about OEM vs. retail or anything. Just that CC was under investigation!

I dunno who is investigating them, but if it is false then it is definite grounds for slander.

then every computer store in Toronto must be under investigation as well
as do any store that sell cheaper than Staples.

all of them?
or one in particular?
it sounds like BS to me if it was all of them because im sure it comes from the same warehouse/factory.
it'd be pretty big news considering canada computers is a pretty big and growing franchise.
plus, if they were stealing goods, why would they steal crappy products since their products seem to suck.

I guess they could be under investigation.....
By Staples head office.
It's a catch-22.
As long as there is a possible price match then there has to be an investigation by Head Office.
As long as there is an Head Office Investigation underway price matching is suspended.
However if there is no possible price match then there is no investigation, which means you can feel free to price match.

They said the same thing when I tried to PM a 1GB CF card with CC. An e-mail to head office cleared that right up.. make sure to mention that they made such a claim..

it would be stupid if they've just totally made that up to reject a pm! i guess staples has really ran out of excuses to turn down pm's

I wouldn't be one bit surprised if they were caught selling stolen goods. I also wouldn't be surprised if each store in Pac. Mall has some stolen goods.

...
I know someone who works at Staples and he told me that a month ago they received an e-mail from head office telling them that they must price match Canada Computer. I have not tried it yet so...

They've done it before, so it would be no surprise. There's the tax thing too.

My friend told me she heard Canada Computers was told off about being a chain store (no longer a family run business) and only hiring employees within their family and social circle. That's why now you sometimes see the odd white guy working there.

I know for a fact that they have a lot of product that is grey market, or not as legit as we would like. I have had the opportunity to purchase large amounts of CPUs and was told if I don't want them, that is where they would end up.
Shortly afterwards the CPUs showed up in a deal with motherboard for some type of combo. The CPUs were the exact model of the ones I was told about.
I had purchased one and went to them for a mobo and was asked if I wanted to take combo instead of the mobo alone. I told them I bought the CPU from where they got theirs and supplied them with the numbers the CPUs were available in. They got very quiet whilst staring at each other.
